I'm afraid Swan3DStudio is right about Blender. Either this app becomes an industry standard in a couple of years or you're not going to score a job in this field. Also, you're a 3d artist when you know the needed techniques and you can use your skills with a wide range of applications.
You might consider buying a student license from Autodesk, they give you full working software for a decent price. Only thing, you can't use it for commercial purposes.
