Are these models original?

Copy right is important otherwise businesses fail because sometimes other people are better at selling their products then the makers and then the makers end up earning no money. In some cases I am ok with people copying because it is the best way to learn how to create when you are learning. It also comes in very useful when job hunting and you have to show a company that you produce models that are at the same level of detail and quality as what they are currently producing in their films and video games. From an artistic point of view though I am so bored of seeing everyone trying to make the same models over and over... That is why I get so excited and go on a like button frenzy every time I come across original 3D models online. I rarely press like on models that are perfect copies of someone else s work unless the artist has made the effort to make cool modifications that add to the creation and give it a unique look.

Jazz do you know if those copies like Marvel, Disney and other models are selling? I actually remember some of those being taken down for copy right reasons and artists can only put them up as portfolio to show off their technical skills. Do you know if they are still taking stuff down?

You are right about that Jazz, however at the very least the models were built from scratch using sample images etc... they weren't stolen from other artists directly or from Marvel.

I know that, that does not justify the copy and that is why none of my models are like that. Occasionally I do spoof versions of Iron man but they are not perfect copies of the armor... more like caricatures.

You won't find any ripped off content on CGT unlike Turbosquid because on top of asking each seller for their ID they also ask you to present a business license or proof of ownership of your personal brand. This ensures that each seller is going to sell what belongs to them else they could easily loose their business license unlike on Turbosquid where they keeping ripping people's models off. Stick with CGtrader you'll love it!

I'm affraid there's no an easy answer to your question, especially when you didn't provide any links to models in question.

There are few ways to gain more confidence in establishing authorship of models:
1. ask seller if he can provide some proof, like screenshots of work in progress, file folder structure, etc.
2. if you're in doubt, ask community here in forums, providing links to models in question.
3. try to google for those particular models (google image search are pretty useful for that)

It's worth to note that even if you're fairly positive about authorship of the model, there still can be obstacles to use it in your game. For example model may be covered by IP of third part companies and you may need to aquire licence from them to use model in your game. Good indicator to see if that's the case, woul be to look into licence under which model is sold. Unfortunatelly not all authors bothers to set right licence for their models. Then there's also textures, which may have separate licence...

I think CGTrader should introduce some rating system on how fair sellers doing their buisness. Let's say, if seller have not any copyright infrigement for a long period, he could receive some badge, like "Fair Seller" or "Trustworthy Author" and that badge should be clearly visible in seller's shop. On the other hand, sellers whom been caught redhanded for few times, should also receive adequate badge, informing potencial buyers to double check for originality of seller's models. Such rating system would be very beneficial for buyers, sellers and for market itself.
