Uploading textures and feedback

Discussion started by chiaro22

Hi,

A few days ago I uploaded a 3dmodel, and I'm a little confused as to whether the texture files got properly uploaded. I uploaded two different texture zip files, one for UE4 and one for Unity 5, but only one of them shows on the asset page (UE4), and it does not show the file size, only a -. Behind my FBX uploads there's also a -, but there it says there's 3 different files, but it does not say so behind my texture -.

If I go to "edit mode" I can see there's multiple texture zip files supposedly uploaded, but they do not show on my product page. Why? Is it only possible to upload one texture zip file?

It would be nice if the file size was shown behind the scenes, so you'd know if the rigth file at the right size is at the right place. It also would be nice if the product page info and the behind the scenes info was consistent, or at least that there were easily available info as to why it's not consistent.

The reason I uploaded textures in separate folders is that I use Blender and Substance Painter, and skipped packing in the textures (which would probably have to be set up again either way). I also have some larger 4K textures awaiting upload, and I'd prefer to keep those files in separate folders.

These have been common issues around here for a while now. For me it is not a massive problem, it clearly depends on how you arrange your files. I pack all the textures with every file format of the scene. No one knows whether or not this pushes someone out of buying, so it would be good if it's solved though.

As far as I know automatic file detection works best on one archive and does not mention anything about textures.

Best make a project folder containing sub folders for the texture maps and put all different 3D formats in the main project folder with proper texture paths pointing to the sub folders, and zip that whole project folder into one archive.

Keep in mind you probably would like to give the customers one file to download and things working out of the box after unzipping, no need for unzipping separate folders and place them somewhere in order to make things work, right?

Anyways, best use description to exactly describe whats in the archive and not rely to much on the automatic file detection.

Thanks for the input!

I can see it might be easier to pack all the textures with every file, as you suggested @franmarz.

I know it's better if everything works out of the box, it doesn't quite do that right now, but I might add more options soon.
