FOR THE NEXT UPDATE : Really big suggestion

Discussion started by Le-Visuel

Hi ! I'm talking to CGT staff but members as well.

It would be really cool in the next update if you make a feature allowing the 3D artists to download their own models.

I know it has already be mentioned many times but it would be really cool, because it's tiring to have to put a model to 0 $ for a few seconds, download the model, and reput the price.

Thanks in advance :)

I would like this option, too. For me it's more to do with the eventuality that my PC/Laptop breaks down, I will have a place to download my own completed models at least! I know 3dexport has this function, and it'll be great if cgtrader does, too!

Hello,

Why do you have to download your models so often? You can create a backup copy of your models, on an external hard drive for example. It is also advisable to have a copy in a different physical location, for possible eventualities such as fires or floods. In the document of rights and obligations of the members says:

"18.4 Sellers should keep a backup of their own uploaded Products at all times Sellers' files uploaded to the Site can not be used as a backup source."

So I do not think that's going to change. I also believe that every user can and should worry about this issue for their own good and that CGT has other, more serious and important issues to worry about.

They can change this article, honestly I don't see anything bad to this new feature. I personnally keep all my models on my external drive but what when it will be full ? If it breaks and I lose all my models ? See the things like this

Both sides are correct, this site is not a cloud of support, but it would be good something like a ticket to download them more easily in case of losing all our info or something like that.

Something like that's what I thought! Just in case of emergency ...

I think that this feature is also usable when customers need support.
Then I can download and work with the exactly same model as the customer downloaded after purchasing.
When I have model on my disk I am not 100% sure that it is exactly the same as the file uploaded to CGT, especially at some very old models.

I believe its inappropriate to use the site as cloud backup, its not that hard to store your work in encrypted archive upload it to a cloud drive or store it on your local drive. If its up to me CGtrader staff do not need to invest time to turn this site into a cloud drive. It would probably also compromise safety.

Hmm why would it compromise safety ? Afterall it's the same system as the buyer's download system or the free download system. It's not becoming a cloud storage, cloud storage is more like all your personnal datas and things like that, family's photos...etc But in our case it's just a feature to download what we sell. When you say it's not hard to keep files on a hard drive, a hard drive can break or be lost, and it that case you lose what you were selling, and as zabotlama said, this feature is also usable when customers need support.

I’m not an expert in programming but it seems to me it generates extra download slots for every model in the backend? If usernames/passwords get intercepted then it seems to me that user then can just download things selectively with no resistance at all? (I admit to not know enough to evaluate this risk correctly). Regarding file transfer for getting in sync with a client, the communication system has build in file transfer so what would be the problem there? About a disk error or losing files, it is probably not a problem to contact CGt staff and ask for copy’s of the files in case of data loss? Anyways, I’m not protesting, it just seems useless feature in light of possibly introducing extra compromise for security, but that's just my feeling about it.
