About free models

Discussion started by ertaka3d

I have 30 free models.People download my products but they don't click like button or write any short comment. It might be good if a state add before people download the products. For example they must like the model before download it.

You can't buy anything with those likes, you know..
Why do you need them?

I understand, but you also increase reputation AND receive money by selling things, so maybe instead of investing time for eventually getting likes, you should use that time to improve your skills and make better, higher priced models?

I don't need their likes. But some mechanism like on the Bandcamp or on some opensource software (i mean "Donation" button) could be useful. If bottomfeeders are not lazy, there would be no problem for them to place "0" in the "donation" form before downloading.

And if somebody wants more "vanity", each "donation" valued more than "0" could automatically spawn "like" for downloaded model ;)

I tried offering free models when I first joined, but I'm completely over that now. Free models appear to have no impact whatsoever on sales; I'm guessing that people who download free stuff aren't the same sort willing to pay for a product. Unfortunately for me this is my job, so customers is what counts, and likes and rep and whatnot is only marginally useful that it may influence a potential customer to take the plunge on one of my items, but I doubt even that is true.

But the lack of any form of "thank you" or anything from downloaders really did get on my nerves. It just seemed rude for so many people to take my stuff without the most rudimentary acknowledgement.

And to add insult to injury, these free items will eventually show up as a "for sale" item either on this site or elsewhere; so not only has someone taken my free item, but decided to profit off my generosity. That for me was the final straw.

I've also don't publishing free models anymore. Absence of any "thanks" was not critical for this decision (maybe because when I'm download anything free, I'm also not always doing "unnecessary" actions like pressing "unrelated" buttons on the screen, so I'm also "ungrateful pig"). The real reason was appearing of my free models in stores of other people (in 4 cases of 5 it was the same unmodified model). And more: somebody BOUGHT these models from the fraudsters and leaved positive reviews for these pirates. It was very unpleasantly.
