They have terrible company management and don't help you what so ever. And when you do have models bought. They screw you over and don't pay you because they switch up their payment system randomly.
I really want to know. I'm happy that some people like the free skyscraper model, but no one bought any models so far. Is the quality too low? Is the price too high? Or is my stuff only not find-able?
What is your experience with cgtrader?
They have terrible company management and don't help you what so ever. And when you do have models bought. They screw you over and don't pay you because they switch up their payment system randomly.
While I don't completely disagree as CG Trader has its issues. I'll give feedback that isn't just slamming the company.
Your models aren't something usable really. Maybe if you were going to do some proxy work roughing out a level or something but even then it's not what buyers want.
From an artistic standpoint. Your textures are just the same texture on all surfaces, there's no attention to detail. They simply don't hold up to current day standards for games or architectural renderings and sites like Turbo Squid have a much larger selection of better quality models for free.
I actually don't sell here. I just enter the competitions when I'm interested but that isn't a valid reason in this case. You have a ways to go to improve your work.
Your models are very simple, some aren't textured and the ones that aren't don't have materials set up for rendering. They just aren't worth purchasing. I know that sounds harsh but it's more helpful than blaming the site no matter how true the criticism of CTG may be. I would recommend hanging out at sites like polycount forums, art station, etc. to learn all you can and improve your craft.
It's because your models are way overpriced and you don't offer anything really usable. Sorry, but you just offer medium quality models of something that hundreds of other people sell in much higher quality.
For me, the system here works just fine, I made about $500 in about 15 months which is a lot less than on Turbosquid but still decent income for the stuff I offer, at least it pays my telephone bills :)
Your quality is low, price too high resonse rate is low and avarage response time is very long. And you have too little models to make money really. You only start to make money with at least 50 models. And you really need to learn to texture your models
It is mostly because the things you built aren't useable like many others have suggested. Price really depends on the buyers but let's face it... CGT seems to have more of the high end buyers as opposed to Turbosquid where you get a lot of low end buyers so if the quality of your models isn't amazing you aren't likely to sell anything. Sadly your chances of being found on here also depend a lot on the quantity of models you have and luck is probably your biggest friend.
I agree with Richard Completely on this one! The CGtrader team is the best I've ever done business with. When things go south, computer problems, payment issues etc... they always try to accommodate your needs and help you solve things A.S.A.P.
I remember back in the days when I was on Turbosquid...or other similar sites, they had great Customer service reps but those people had limited power and were rarely able to provide adequate support. If there was ever a payment or other more complicated issue they would call in a supervisor and those people always took forever to get back to you and more often then not refused to help even when at fault.
hello..
don't worry, everything needs some patience.
keep going & keep it up.
best regards.
I'm going to offer a more generic answer: people just like free stuff. You'll always get more downloads of free models than purchases of for-sale models- that's just how it is.
John is right however be very careful because once people get used to downloading your models for free they won't take you seriously anymore. I have been on CGtrader for a few years now as well as used to sell on other sites and the people who downloaded my free models never bought any of my paid models. So putting up free models only gets you views from freeloaders and puts off the serious buyers.
One important business rule that applies across the board is that you should never give away a free service and then expect people to suddenly pay for it later on. If tomorrow facebook started charging you to use it... how quickly would you unsubscribe to their site? Business is all about common sense.
Since the day Steve Jobs came up with the stupid Itunes music 1 dollar for each song 3D assets have become de valued. Most customers feel they shouldn't have to spend anymore than a dollar on 3D or music assets.
On the other hand some 3D studios are willing to pay a little more, 100 dollars per model but those need to be perfect and ready to go... If anything is not industry standard it won't sell for that amount.
Everything needs to be perfect from the clean scene setup to the file hierarchy, textures rig etc..
I agree with marvimation
