Holiday sale question

Discussion started by jackfurneri1984

Hi community, I joined the program which applies 30% discount to my products. I would like to know what criteria is used to sort products in the search list, because I noticed that at the top there are always the same products repeated as it happened for the black friday. Doesn't CGtrader scramble the results sometimes?

I saw old products appearing at the top and mine, which are more recent, appearing at page 6 or even 10.

That is not easy for customers to find the products.

There is a box you can tick to filter on holiday sales, is this what you are asking about?

With regards to position of the models, I think that gets sorted on amount of sales they generate.
Personally I think this is not really important at all because my new models usually also end up last and then after while getting sold couple of times end up front, but not get more average sales because of that.

I would argue good tags and other efforts in getting good Google ranking and so forts is more important.

You can basically be a strange duck and still get relative good sales even in background on CGt as long as people can find your things easily if there looking for it online.

I took a look at your things and they are actually ranking very well here on CGt?

If I type bucket (even left out medieval) then it shows up front page.
Same for well etc.

Probably best not overate the position, it is not biggest factor in getting more sales.

I do not think he is referring to that. He is wondering why the same products always show up on the front page of CGT instead of there being a good variety of products. It seems like only a few artists ever show up on there.
I never see exciting stuff like this ever pop up on the main Page of CGT even though it is awesome;
1. https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/car/racing/lola-mk-iii-t70-racing-car

2.c https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/car/concept/chevrolet-chaparral-2x-vgt-concept

3.https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/architectural-exterior/landmark/kwan-yin-bodhisattva-statue

Also game models or low poly models never show up there either.

It could be that they only display the best selling items to make sure they keep their main buyers up to date.

Yes Marvin. In part it was also about the thing you said. The fact is that some poor model comes to the top and some good model comes to the end. But it's not a rule. I'm just asking if the number of sales is just the criteria they use for the ranking

Always keep in mind awesomeness is a subjective thing that cannot be measured, sales figures however can be measured.

To that end maybe a 3D toilet can appear up front and not necessarily strike as awesome to most.

If we are talking about showcasing in top 3D models on the landing page then I believe the time of publishing and rate of interactions it gets in shortest amount of time are most dominant factors for appearing there for a while.

I have been there few times but again have to warn to not overate the impact it has on sales. However you do get more likes in that time so if that is something you value?

You can try it yourself, publish a model and try to immediately get lots of views, it will appear in the top 3D models after one or two days.

You need to publish and directly post updates(add links) in all your social channels, artstation, pinterest, facebook groups, google+,etc., just get lots of views in short time and you will get on that page.

That is also reason you see mostly the same people appear there because they are usually very active online and get lots of views immediately after publishing something new.

Yes I agree iterateCGI. Some models will sell better than others regardless of their awesomeness value. In the history of me being on any 3D site I have never posted anything that has ever instantly got many views... so I do not know how that feels. Having said that it is entirely due to my complete incompetence when it comes to pricing and tagging. I am still learning in that area.
