Weekly challenge

Discussion started by dzejsi-models

Hello,

I have a question about weekly challenges and reputation points. Because In my opinion it is nonsence, when every week wins members whose have no models to sell, but only a lot of free models. And because these free models and downloads they wins credits to sell models. And what models? They have only free models and they doesn´t need credits :) And what more, after few weeks these members without priced models will be the ones with the biggest reputation, even before the biggest sellers.

I don´t want to offend anyone, but don´t you think this system is a little bit weird and it would be good to change points assigning a little bit?

Thank you for your time :)

Hi... I just wanted to give my two cents. I have not made any sales yet, but I have uploaded about 9 models that are not free. My reputation seems to be growing solely from posting new models and helping people with issues. I think that you just do not seem to understand how it really works. Maybe look more into how the system works and read the FAQ page for more info? Again no offense, just my 2 cents.

Thank you for post. I understand you have points for forum helps or adding new models etc. It is alright for me. But when you look on last week winners ( https://www.cgtrader.com/challenges/weekly/5 ) on first 4 places, you can see members with only free models. On color bars you can see they have all points only for downloads. Why? Because they have free models, because they have a lot of downloads and they have a lot of reputation. It is simple.

Well I see what you mean now that I look further into it. I do think that this concept can be easily frowned upon. Maybe it is set up this way to encourage sellers to put more "free" items on the site? I am not sure of the reasoning behind it either. Maybe it could be organized in a different manner? I would contact the admin's and state your issue with the system, and I would like to hear what they have to say honestly.

Hello there. I must say I agree with Dzejsi, maybe paid models could get more points than free available ones. I don't want to start a flame war about free models ruining the market and blah blah, there are other forums where this issue is being debated to death to no result. I just want to point out that the strongest points here on cg trader are that the site is made to get customers and artists/sellers get in touch directly, and the excellent 90% royalty rate (why not to mention it?). The majority of the sellers are here to make a living, again maybe paid models might get a few more points than the free ones. Just my 2 Euro cents. No offense meant to anybody.

Good idea, we'll probably add more reputation for sales, although it is important to not overdo it, so large sellers outpace other users

Great observation. That turned my head into agreement. we are all here for the same reason I think... or at least the majority of us are. Buy and sell models! Indeed, the paid models should raise points. It is only fair!

Hi Dzejsi,

Thanks for raising good questions. We are still in the process of balancing the reputation, so it would be interesting for the new users to play with. Two weeks ago we decided to give +5 bonus points for every new free model download, as DonniecBlender noticed, to motivate users share models for free. So it happened that some users had many free models and were at the top till all the points decreased to 0. From that point, free models won't get you so far ahead, unless of course you upload new models.

We've been thinking to increase basic points for uploaded models and to add more actions to the reputation system. Please let us know if you have more suggestions!

I agree djezi. I want to mention we can't make all our models free because We want to sell our models and this reputation points support the free model selling. I m still not sell any of my models except free ones. I dont want to publish all my models thats why site need to improve about this issue.

I think this is a very interesting post, because I'm really curious about the reputation program. Do you think it could get you more sales? Anybody with high reputation can share his experience? :)

Bondiana, partially yes, although not much at the moment. Having higher reputation will give you higher position in designer list, which in turn give more Google authority to your profile and model pages. Resulting effect will be subtle. But in the future we might give more sales power to those who have high authority.

Also we are working on other interesting features related to reputation, so stay tuned!

I find that this is a very interesting topic, I agree with Dzejsi.
I understand that CgTrader did this to incite to put their own models free, but for example I have just had a sale and I gained 40 points of reputation: a little more than simply when you load a model! I think they should raise the reputation points for sales and also for the "like" on a model and, maybe, the "followers".
Otherwise always win the same to the challenge of the week ... And this is not very fair.
I do not want to intrude in the organization of the site, this is a fantastic site and I know that my comment may be that it is not very fair, and I, however, I see it that way.

I think it should be very difficult to make everybody happy with the reputation program, but I agree with blender3dboy.... sales should have more points. Btw, I think CGT is doing a great work :)

I know this is off-topic, but I have been thinking a bit about what would improve the site. Surprisingly, I can not think of anything that would make the interface of this site better. The site is amazing and the concept is very original. The only problem I have is only being able to post 3 topics per day. I just simply do not think that this is reasonable. I know and understand that we must be limited on how many times that we post a thread, but I think it should be raised to a number like 5 times per day. Just my 2 cents! :D

So following the discussion we'll be making some changes starting from today - model upload and sale will have more points, so you can compete better :)

Hi all,
I am happy my thread is good for some changes :) More points for sale and models upload is logical for sure.

BTW: Today in weekly challenge, on first place, member with all free models again :)

The good thing about this site is that the staff is very open to our ideas. I really miss that on other webs. I agree with Dzejsi that this a very logical to give more points to sales and models ;)

hi,

not anymore dzejsi_models, i'm planning on uploading all my models starting today. all 142 of them. That is before i find out about the reputation point. :)

Well whatever you are planning to do, please do not upload too many free models. Whenever there are tons of those on the site it makes it to where the models for sale do not get as much business. :)

i currently dont have any free models. I guess it's okay to have 1 or 2 free models, but please no textured and complex model

That is great then. :). I think everyone here is basically here for the same two reasons; Make extra money or a living / Buy models. The people who are here for only buying models will think that there is no need to buy any if there are thousands of free ones. Just my two cents. I for one, will not be uploading anything for free, unless it is something that took no valuable time to make. Time is money--money is time.

Free models will kill the category. Why model a furniture when there are thousands available for free

I agree but i think that the user set the price for his work, if it is hard it wont be for free.
