The London Guarantee Building, commonly referred to as the London House, is a roughly 340ft (104m) tall skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois. The beaux arts building stands on the site of Fort Dearborn, the military fort whose establishment marked the beginning of European settlement of what was to become the city of Chicago. Located on a bend of Wacker Drive where Michigan Avenue meets the Chicago River, the London Guarantee Building forms the centerpiece of one of the most magnificent and most photographed views of the city. The building, completed in 1923, was designed by architect Alfred S. Alschuler for its namesake insurance firm, the London Guarantee & Accident Company. In the mid-20th century, the building housed the world-class London House nightclub where some of the most famous names in jazz performed. Today, the London House name lives on following a 2010s renovation as a glamorous hotel and rooftop bar.
