Videocards for rendering Seem backwards. Building a workstation need help.

Discussion started by KyberDev

I'm researching parts to build a good rendering computer i'm comparing video cards and benchmarks.

So I found a few place like this http://blenchmark.com/cpu-benchmarks

a Blender Cycles rendering benchmark plugin.

It shows that 2x 780ti's running sli render faster than most other cards on the market. In 3x sli they beat all over cards except 4x 1080s.

Can anyone CONFIRM or Explain how 780s beat even the TITAN black cards?

Lowering my end cost is huge, i'm trying to build a good system without going broke.

If you look at the last entry in that GPU benchmark, you'll see there 3x680 rig with score of ~4000 seconds. Now if you believe that 3x780 rig has 200 times more computational power than 3x680 rig, then well... good luck in building your own rig ;]

I'd suggest to do further search and look for more trustworthy benchmark, because that one you linked, is clearly nonsense.

What i'm looking for is suggestion info and others user experience in picking out a new card or set of cards. Any HELPFUL info would be great.

For the most part i've seen these benchmarks are accurate. I did my own test on my system for cpu and gpu and they were updated immediately. (not very good 960m 135 seconds) but it was accurate.

This was not my only source showing the 780 in 2 and 3 way sli outperforming newer cards. please look for yourself but, I didn't find it necessary to spam a question with repeat info.

Also the 780 runs on different architecture then the 680 [significantly different hardware] so using that as a baseline to say the benchmark is false doesn't hold up.
