Questions about 3D jobs

Discussion started by vargold8

Hello, i'm new on CGtrader so i have a few questions about Freelance 3D jobs.

I went to the jobs propositions and saw a job that i could easily do, so i apply for it by making an offer with a generous price offer.

I was one of the first to apply for this job and now there is 14 applicants so first : What do we have to do for be chose ? Show our skills in our message offer ? I only posted a short message for saying i'm apt to do this for less money that he proposed first.

Secondly, it's about 3 days he posted this job and in "my jobs" it says "not selected yet". Why is it so long to choose his worker and how will i know if he don't chose me ?

In last, the work he proposed is the animation of 3 characters disponibles on CGTrader. When he will accept an applicant, he is going to give it the 3 rigged characters that are paying ? So if we work of this type of job we got paying characters freely or what ?

Sorry if some answers are obvious, i'm new with this 3D jobs offers and i don't understand it completely, but it looks really cool.

Thanks !

Hi,

Treat the application process like you are applying to a real job. Sell yourself,
What makes you the best person for the job?
Explain how you will do the job and what time it will take
Provide as much of your previous work that is relevant to the job. Show them what you can do

From experience it takes a little bit for clients to select the artist. If there is no contact with you after 24 hours you most likely wont be chosen. Sometimes they take longer but usually they would contact you relatively quickly. There have been case where a few days have passed before a message is received. If they choose to go with someone else the message will change from "not yet selected" to "declined" or "Not selected"

The models he would send you are not yours and you can't use them unless he gives his permission (usually they will let you use the work in your portfolio but not for resale).

Communication is key when it comes to these jobs. Be clear and honest when applying and you'll have a good time. If you don't do a good enough job you probably won't get paid so make sure that you can do it before applying.

Best of luck

Joe

What do you mean "If you don't do a good enough job you probably won't get paid"? How is that decided? Who gives the job might just decide that the result is not good (even though it is) and so he keeps the model but you don't get paid?

Hi onnimra,

Ultimately the client and website decide if the final product is up to scratch. Which makes sense as they have pre-paid the work. CGTrader holds the money and to receive a refund the client will have to got through the website to get it back.

In the majority of cases you will be given more time to produce a better result. However if you are too far off a decent final product come the deadline it is likely that they will want their money back.

Under no circumstance would you produce a satisfactory model and have the client refund it. The website will be in contact with the client, examine the work and decide whether it is fit for purpose.

I wouldn't worry too much about it though. As i said you will most likely be given more time or be paid anyway for your time. In my experience it is very rare to have a job refunded and if that ends up happening the blame typically rests on the modeler as they have failed to produce a satisfactory product. Do a good job and you will be paid

I hope this answers your question,

Joe

Thanks for your reply. I see, my only concern reading your previous message was that in some scenarios the Client can manage to get a job done and not pay it, so that got me worried.

The client MUST pre pay the job. There is no way they can select someone without paying beforehand. The money rests with CGTrader before any work is done
