I think designer rank is a way to measure your contribution to this community. Don't know if it helps boost sales or customer searches.

It goes up with sales, new uploads, and forum posts.

Apologies if was not clear. 'Reputation' score goes up as you sell and post. 'Designer Rank' is where you come in the list of CGT sellers. So your rank will go down if those bellow you increase 'reputation' faster than you.
