Why can't free models be rated / reviewed?

Discussion started by pineapp1es

Why isn't there a rating or review feature for free models? I believe it would be beneficial to have more than just a comments section for feedback. I've encountered numerous misleading, poorly formatted, or simply subpar models that I've downloaded, and it would be helpful to rate them so other users can quickly identify which models to avoid.

Additionally, the "report" button should include more options, such as "Misleading" or "Missing files." This would make it easier to flag low-quality models for internal review and potential removal. Implementing these changes could significantly improve the site and help users steer clear of bad downloads.

With free models you get what you're paying for. Be thankful that people are uploading their work for you to use for FREE, instead bitching and looking for ways how to report what you don't like. Cgtrader does not have enough resources to moderate paid models and you're asking them to police free content? Don't be ridiculous. Give likes for the models that you find useful, leave polite messages in the comments section for the models that you think have issues.

With all due respect, I was not "b!tching" in my post. That being said- I appreciate your perspective on the value of free models and the effort that creators put into sharing their work. However, I believe that having a rating and reporting system could enhance the experience for everyone. While it's true that free content comes with its own set of challenges, a structured feedback mechanism would help users quickly identify quality models and avoid wasting time on subpar ones. Encouraging positive feedback is important, but it’s also essential to have a way to address issues with models that may mislead or disappoint users. This isn't about policing creators but rather fostering a community where quality and transparency are prioritized, benefiting both users and creators in the long run.

I think I understand where the OP is coming from.
Having a simple thumbs up or down rating system would be nice, not just in order to give negative feedback on poorly made models but to praise good ones and hopefully make them more prominent in searches.
I think the overall problem with poor models is the fact that not everyone provides renders/images of the topology/wireframe.
That would make it much simpler to avoid bad models, not just the free ones.

Correction: "I think the overall problem with poor models is the..." should be "I think the overall problem with evaluating models in general is the fact that not everyone provides renders/images of the topology/wireframe."

Precisely. It's not meant to be a dig on anyone, it would help promote a higher standard knowing that, "If I upload good stuff, I'll get more notoriety" thus drawing more traffic to their profile. More traffic = more possible sales...
