Suggestion: Add User Created Categories on Account Pages

Discussion started by Lore-3D

I'd like to see sellers be able to create personalized categories for their models. Currently, the site does it automatically using tags but this doesn't always work out right. Here's the problem I'm having and my solution.

Currently the models I have for sale range from different medieval melee weapons to pencils and erasers to Christmas gifts and holiday stuff. Even though I have tags for Christmas and Medieval, the site doesn't create separate categories for them. This is potentially lowering the visibility of certain models. The most recent models I've created are Christmas themed so, if someone clicks on my store page looking for swords and stuff, they're only going to see the holiday models. This may discourage them from looking deeper at my page. Also, just in general, the designer pages don't look great with random assorted models laying around.

My solution is to add user created categories. Designers could place whatever models they wanted into each category. For example, someone could place all their alien character models, weapon models, and ship models into a single area right on their front page, rather than those models potentially being scattered. This feature could be accessible after gaining a reputation level, but I'm not sure if that would be necessary. This feature would be super useful for me personally, so, think about it CGTrader Team.

I agree that your solution would make designers landing page much better, the question remains, is anyone exept designer herself even looks at such pages. I guess u should be "welll known" for this to be a problem, i assume people who are looking for wepon models only use search and are not looking at some designers page. I might be wrong, not sure how to check that. Do you notice a lot of buyers that buy two or more times from you? If so, might be designers profile page should me more organised..

You have a point. I think most people buying are simply searching and picking out the best model they see. The issue I see potentially happening is this: Someone searches for a Ring CAD file, they see a model they like but don't love. They go to the designers page and find a different model they like better. In this scenario, the problem becomes that Designer pages generally feature the newest models first, so if the perfect Ring model is older, then people are less likely to find it. They may also not see that the designer has a Bracelet model that is very similar to that Ring model. They weren't looking for a Bracelet, but seeing it with the model they wanted might prompt them to purchase both. This is an issues mainly for designers with lots of models, and sales, which is why tying it in to the reputation system might be the best way to go. For me, this is simply a visual issue. If people are coming to my page, I want them to see the types of models I am consistently uploading rather than seeing random one-off models.

@Mantas-Talamantas, I agree, probably most users just use the main search but a more complete and customizable seller space/page would boost community interactions at some level (if a state of the art following system with notifications would be tight into it).

Some artists deliver specific styles of content that are attractive to other specific kinds of artists.
If such artists finds this favorite artist then they want to follow him/her to get notified when new works become available (preferably on a pages that delivers best experience).

It would be cool that was here right?

Also, it would provide more tools to carve out own brand and online activity around it, serve more as the main page to direct own marketing efforts towards and get followers, etc.
