Product page images are being stretched, look bad

Discussion started by tersta

Hi there,

It seems that there have been some tweaks to the product page. Previously, uploaded product images would be shrunk to fit vertically and space on either side would be filled in with background. Now, it seems the images are stretched to fit in both directions, leaving a rather squat image of the product. The thumbnail images on listing and product pages show product images without dimensional distortion, but each product page I've looked at this morning shows a squat and distorted main image. Can main image distortion be avoided by scaling for height only, please? Also, to take advantage of the main image space available, can you tell us what the dimensions/aspect ratio is for the main image on the product page? Thanks.

This screenshot it what I see with a partially expanded window. The main image is horizontally compressed, squashed.

This screenshot is what I see with full window - maximized. The main image is horizontally stretched.

Hi there,

Could you give an example? e.g. link to model that you viewed?

Here's my latest upload: https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/food/miscellaneous/old-world-smokehouse Compare the thumbnail with the main product image and you can see how squat the image is due to horizontal stretching. Here's one from a fellow designer that looks great in the thumbnails and on the listing page, but just look at that stein. It's so squat that's it's not even recognizable as a stein. https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/food/miscellaneous/good-food

Hi again, Could you also give a screenshot or two on how the images/thumbnails look on your computer/laptop?

Hi Eduardas, Any updates on the issue? Hope the images that I posted yesterday are helpful. Let me know if you need more examples. Also, I think we only get forum post notifications if we 'reply'. I didn't see your last response until I checked back here, as I am doing right now.

Hi Eduardas,
I've added a couple screenshots to the post for you to see. The first one shows horizontal compression/squashing in a half-screen browser window, while the second shows horizontal stretching in a maximized browser window. When images are scaled vertically only there's no horizontal distortion (stretching/squashing). If you change the size of your browser window (maximize, half-screen, etc.) you'll see the same horizontal distortion that I'm seeing.

Hi there,

To be honest, I can't recreate any of your mentioned cases. Could you tell me what browser (and version, if possible) you're using?

Hi Eduardas, Browser dependent variables...not surprised. My browser is Microsoft Edge 40.15063.674.0 using Microsoft Edge HTML 15.15063.
