Mastering textures & materials: Tips for meeting CGTrader’s high-quality standards

Discussion started by JuditaCGTrader

Hey, CGTrader community! :)

Applying textures and materials effectively can take your 3D models to the next level. To help artists meet CGTrader’s high-quality standards, a new guide has been published that dives into Texture and Material Requirements in detail: https://www.cgtrader.com/blog/mastering-cgtrader-s-texture-material-requirements-enhancing-your-3d-models-to-meet-top-quality-standards

Key highlights include:

-High-resolution textures (2048x2048 or higher) to bring out fine details.
-PBR materials with consistent albedo, metalness, and roughness maps for realistic lighting and surfaces.
-Optimization tips like texture atlases and mipmaps to balance quality and performance.

Let’s discuss tips and experiences!
-How do you create seamless textures or manage resolution across maps?
-Any advice for aligning PBR maps effectively?
-What tools or workflows do you use to optimize textures for real-time applications?

Looking forward to learning from the community! ;)

My experience is that your verification checks for textures does not work and thus first thing customer sees is misleading information about my models.

Thank you for sharing your experience, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. Upon investigation, we identified that the PBR texture check is failing because the model does not meet specific requirements. Additionally, the square and power-of-two checks are not passing due to errors in the EXR files. To address this, we are re-processing all models that include EXR files to ensure they comply with these checks. Once this process is complete, the models should pass the verification smoothly. Your feedback is valuable, and we’re committed to resolving this issue quickly.

Hi Judita,
Could you please reprocess the models that have ".hdr" files? Most of my models have square PBR textures with HDR files(for rendering). Thanks
