Mastering naming conventions: Tips for meeting CGTrader’s high-quality standards

Discussion started by JuditaCGTrader

Hey, CGTrader community! :)

Proper naming conventions might not be the first thing that comes to mind when creating 3D models, but they are crucial in ensuring a smooth workflow and a professional presentation. To help artists align with CGTrader’s high-quality standards, we’ve published a new guide covering Naming Requirements in detail: https://www.cgtrader.com/blog/streamlining-your-3d-modeling-workflow-adhering-to-cgtrader-s-naming-requirements

Key takeaways:

-Use clear and descriptive names (e.g., red_sports_car_v1 instead of model1) for better readability.
-Adopt a standardized format, including underscores and version suffixes (e.g., _v1, _v2), to keep assets organized.
-Avoid special characters and spaces to prevent compatibility issues across different systems.
-Maintain consistent capitalization (e.g., all lowercase or camel case) for uniformity.

Let’s discuss it!

-How do you structure your file naming to stay organized?
-Have you encountered issues due to inconsistent file names? How did you fix them?

Let’s share our best practices and keep improving together!

Hello, this might be a bit off-topic, but nevertheless, I would like to thank you for listening to our requests and fixing the search engine. Now, new models are also displayed, making it easier for people to find them. Thank you!

I would appreciate if one of the next tips would be about recommended thumbnail image dimensions (ratios). Still I do not know what the best is. I only know that it is not square (1:1) neither hdri. Maybe 1500:1000? Or also what about recommended background color. Just an idea for next topic. )))
