Immigration from Turbosquid to Cgtrader

Discussion started by DreamExpander

Hi, everybody!

I have sold my models on turbosqud.com for 5 years. But I decided to immigrate
Cgtrader from today. Strict new policies for exclusive publishing on Turbosquid forced me to leave there.

"Strict new policies for exclusive publishing..."
To be fair: TS has no such "new"policy.
There is a SquidGuild membership which requires exclusivity for higher loyalty, but this is optional.
Let's stick with facts, mate.

Yes, new policies, or maybe new actions that make some trouble for me, without any response to my support tickets! Some things aren't fair. For example: Just exclusive publishers are eligible for getting Checkmate Light or Pro certification. The customer thinks that Checkmate has been just a quality indicator, while a non-checkmated model may be better, but it can't get Checkmate because its creator isn't an exclusive seller. I think t's not fair, not for the seller and also not for the customer.

Here in another witness about new policy of TS. They are going to change search algorithm for the benefit of checkmate models that created by exclusive publishers: https://forum.squid.io/t/checkmate-spec-simplification-announcement/19894

TS offers more benefits for exclusive vendors.
Checkmate one of them, although the policy itself is not new.

But if you think about it, the fact that TS's long standing hegemony seems to be over, indicates that Checkmate could not be so make-or-break factor after all.
The competition is closing the gap, with or without SquidGuild or Checkmate.
The market is changing, forcing all of us to revisit how we react.
Just my 2 cents.

I have been selling on TS since 2002. I feel TS really turned their back on the old guard sellers with their Squidguild nonsense they peddled years ago. It practically killed the only real competition back than in the3dstudio.com . They then started absorbing their competition like Fallingpixel, Exchange3d and now recently 3d02. They exhibit anti-competitive behavior and I have personally been offered a NDA agreement to sign for exclusivity which I refused. I am hoping and praying CGtrader can put pressure on them to change .

As a buyer, turbosqid is somewhat of nightmare as well.

They don't have a wish list to keep track of what I like.
They don't have sales often.
They don't let me contact sellers.
They don't offer .max file convert for items below 25 dollars.

So, I prefer this place far more than over there.
