How to counter the project cancellation issue? (saving freelancers time, guarantee the site benefits), for a clean and non toxic environment

Discussion started by ibrahimgate

Freelancer 3D project could be a better place for more serious business.

Case Scenario :

A guy posted a project, that i told him i'll spend around 17 hours on it, and he confirm of paying 50$ for my work. Once i come out to present my result. He just cancelled the project. And the time i invest my work in, is lost.

What happened? 3 Possibilities...

1. He might agreed with another applicant to pay using different services, so he cancelled the project, since cgtrader.com site charges #% on the amount of payment.

2. He is a scammer who is waiting others to present 3d figure , so he can download it and run away without paying by cancelling the project.

3. He changed his mind, which doesn't sound legit case.

4. He is a 15 years old kid, who just create accounts ask for project and cancel for no obvious reason laughing on other's waste of time. (trust me there are alot of sick minds out there lol).

Solution: (and i hope site managers or admins could read this).

1. Limit project posting to only the accounts that have valid paypal in it, to guarantee the payment and age restriction. This task is really easy.

2. Upon posting a new project, the website will charge the user a fee of 2$, and a hold amount % of the project offer fee (for example: if his offer is 50$, your website will charge him 2$+(10% of the 50 ) which is 5$. These fees will not be refunded upon project cancellation. SO TO SPEAK, ONLY SERIOUS PROJECT OWNERS WILL HAVE THE GUTS TO POST A NEW PROJECT.

3. Add reputation Count for the amount of cancelled projects, aka if the account ID has many cancellations (it will state that this ID canceled many project, and vice versa if the account owner fulfilled projects he get a up count). So we are (the freelancers) will figure out the legit project owner from the sham project owner easily by reading his reputation status near his name on the project offer preview.

P. S. to the website admins,

By doing these steps, you will guarantee a clean platform for freelancers to work, and great offers and more buyers.

Furthermore, your website will guarantee the profit gained even if the project holder and the worker decided to leave and use another services like (direct paypal paying), because your website will get the fees anyway.

In the end "These steps will help you to force the project owner to continue using the service rather than going outside payment"

Sorry for the long post, Thanks for reading.

For those who disagree, you have your point of view and i have mine. Don't get angry on me. It is just an advice.

Best regards.

I don't do projects but I see other people complain about them on the forum. I think your ideas are actually quite reasonable, I like them.

Thanks for liking the idea, the more likes we get, the more the department will take an action toward protecting their business and their beloved freelancers.

I can tell you what happened there, you made most basic mistake - never ever start working without securing payment. Your situation could easily be avoided if both, you and the client would play by the rules - 1. you negotiate project specification and price, 2. the client is hiring you for the project, 3. you working on the project 4. when work is finished, you handle end product to the client and he is marking the project as finished 5. by the end of the next month cgtrader is transfering funds to your bank account. It's that simple. No need to invent gimmick features to hinder normally functioning process. Now, if you skipped step 2 and started working without securing payment, you have only yourself to blame. If you're smart enough, you will learn from your mistake and next time you feel much more confident, because all the safeguards are already here, placed by the cgtrader, you just need to follow procedures and finally start making some earnings.

Don't know to what you agreed, nor what makes you think that you can call me dude, but if you dismiss someone's advice or comments just because you don't like that person, then you will always have problems and not only with me. Anyways, i get your point, from now on, i will leave you alone with your useless topics. I have no desire to endlessly argue with foolish people.

ha ha ha , if people like you would not agree to work without payment, then there would be no such customers ! I don't ever agree to work without money . because there are other freelancers besides me , such as you, who are ready to work without money, thereby allowing the customer to dictate terms to you !

If people like me would not agree to work without payment???? did you read the post well???, obviously you didn't understand what i posted. I didn't say i need payment to work. I said posting a project should required valid payment method associated with the client account. Also the site should charge the client a fee to post. that fee goes to the site not the freelancer. I'll set an example for you : if i go make new account, then post a project and you apply for this project then i demand you to work on it, however, my new account doesn't have payment method. and thus you are going to work on it anyway, because you don't know that i am a trol. you waste your time and i laugh. do you get the point of kids posting fake projects and it's bad impact on freelancers?

Some good suggestions, but you shouldn't get started before the customer makes the payment first

That is the point, when clients ain't respond, and ask the freelancer to work first and show them results.
