GIFs and 3D Previews

Discussion started by AlexPoirier

Hi,

There's really only 2 things that I feel this site is lacking: GIFs and 3D Previews.

A 3D preview (like Sketchfab) is worth a thousands images, there really is no better way for the customer to see what he's getting. I understand this is limited to real-time models, but it still would be a great improvement. As a side note, just to be honest I find it kinda hypocritical that CGTrader encourages us to link and promote on Sketchfab, but does not allow the opposite. I'm sure they have their reasons though, just saying.

GIFs would be great to showcase animations, simple turntables or any dynamic thing the model/materials can do in a quick and efficient manner.

Like we have here on the forum, some basic formatting for the model's description would go a long way as well.

Aside from that I find the site very well designed and I've had mostly a good experience using it.

Thank you

I heard that 3D previews are hackable. I don't know if it's true, but I'm naturally suspicious :)

Hmm if it's possible to extract 3D model from a video game using what your gpu is processing, I guess it's also the case for 3D viewers :/

Also sketchfab is a direct competitor to cgtrader now.. so they cant do it imo.

We still can use video from youtube, it is not so cool like 3d viewer but it works.

I agree, it's very time-consuming to make nice-looking preview images. Being able to simply upload a model for a 3D preview would save a lot of work and give the customer more information.

The ability to hack 3D previews is concerning, but I feel like overall you would gain more sales for the good preview than you would lose to hackers. You could always let sellers decide whether or not they want to offer a 3D preview.

Animated gifs would also be nice. As a buyer, I am often hesitant to click on YouTube previews. A short animated gif would be preferable.
