CG Trader Software

Discussion started by Art-Studio3d

I think a similar software like ,,TS tentacles ,, will be good for CG Trader site, obvious free download compatible with 3ds MAX, Maya, C4D, Blender...etc.

Is't Tentacles discontinued for a long time already? I have personally never found it any useful and I don't even know anyone that ever used it. Having another software installed is kinda useless when the web interface of puting the models online is so simple and fast.

When ,,Tentacle TS,, was included in 3ds MAX sales increased and there are still many who use ,,Tentacle,,.

The main selling point of tentacle was its cloud based storage of your assets and availability of them within your 3D host application, and also deliver integration of the browsing and purchasing experience.

However, in practice you still would want to have your assets on your fast local drives.

An online cloud base storage system cannot deliver the speed of a local disk or raid 0 array and if you have SSD then it will certainly not come near (3D data and texture packages are big files).

This fact eliminates the need of having a dedicated cloud based asset management system as it would just store short cuts to your own hard drive and not the actual 3D data itself (would be way to slow).

In this case you would be better off with a platform agnostic and good functioning asset browser software that is able to connect well to your host 3D applications (including access to all assets you can find on the web anywhere ells and also the ones you make yourself locally).

Personally I use Connector which is a very well thought out asset browser with good integration for 3ds max and other 3D applications (most artist use a wide range of applications)

Visit and check it out if you are not familiar with it (http://connecterapp.com/).

This browser was also developed with a connection to a 3D asset store in mind, but is deliberately made to be platform agnostic and that is how it should be.

Strategically in this way the developers have more chances on wide adoption of the browser and bring its users closer to the own asset offerings (but having it still useful even when you get assets somewhere ells).

This type of browser also delivers de browsing and purchasing experience within the application but in a two step way, first getting the assets on the fast local drive then have them available in connection to all of your host 3D applications via automatic script installments.

So jess having this kind of software connection is useful but then I would suggest to follow the model of these developers and have linkage to CGtrader (in comparable fashion as they do it with designconnected).

The way Ts approaches service is to just design tings to exclude al competition from the planet and in the process deliver junk services that get you stuck.
