Better sorting on search results

Discussion started by EtherionDesigns

I think CGTrader needs an improvement on its sorting of models. I released a AAA Dolphin model for 3Ds max and Unreal Engine 4 a week ago, and it sits at the bottom of page 2 when you search "Dolphin".

There is literally an elephant, gun, swordfish, walrus, multiple sharks, an octopus, a plant, vase, fish, stadium, bookshelf, many helicopters, a sperm whale, blue whales, theme parks, and a chair positioned higher in the search results than my dolphin model - not to mention that the quality of my model is higher than 90% of other dolphins on this website.

I can pretty much expect to get no sales at all if this is how poor the sorting system is.

My models score is 8/10, and I copped my tags from the dolphin at the top of search result.

Here is my model for reference: https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/animals/fish/dolphin-pack-with-ue4-blueprint

Hello,

The search system seems quite fair because it is not based exclusively on sales and gives visibility to newly published models. A recently published model could be at the top of the searches and that is good for everyone.

The problem is not in the search system, it is between the chair and the keyboard. If the labels are not set correctly, the searches are distorted. Sometimes the labels are poorly written or not according to the model, they are only put to fill and that affects the searches.

Yeah, I understand. Perhaps there should be an option to report incorrect listings that pop up in unrelated search terms. Surely a model of a helicopter should not show up in the search for dolphin above a literal dolphin.

I would not worry about the helicopter, because if someone enters looking for a dolphin, they will not buy a helicopter. I would try to improve the position of my model in searches, improving the presentation, the views ...

What he proposes would be a lot of work for little benefit. This effort could be used to prevent fraud and the resale of free models, which would be a great benefit for all.
