Selling a button panel and a collection of sci-fi devices.

Discussion started by HorizonSystems

A revised version of my oldest model: https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/vehicle/sci-fi-vehicle/sci-fi-button-panel
This is an updated collection with all my recent models: https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-model-collections/sci-fi-panels-b36d7d94-9c68-4b65-9bb2-57b50f000f85
Advice / feedback would also be welcome as i have yet to get a single sale and i want to know what i can do to improve.

My advice would be - if you are going to revise a model do it on one that already sells well (if it needs revising). Imagine going to bakery and no one likes the taste of their celery muffin, so instead of trying a new flavor they invest their time inventing a super celery muffin with celery sauce, doesn't really make much sense right?

Just keep making new products until you find your niche then double down on that. Also 3D artists are the main people making purchases, so make something that saves them time so they should be well detailed and in demand.

Also work on your descriptions, this doesn't invoke much confidence from the buyers point of view, being honest and not trying to be harsh but we are here as professional merchants, not a charity:
"They are designed to be used in the background as they will not hold up if they are the center of attention." - so this tells me the quality isn't good by your own standard?
"This collection is just to support me if you like my work." - support you why? we also have bills to pay, if your product is good then support goes both ways.

I was under the impression that high quality models were valued over more models and as i have no sales i wasnt sure what to improve. Also, Hard surface modeling is my main skill. Do you think i could still find success if i continue making assets of my theme (sci-fi / future)

"I was under the impression that high quality models were valued over more models" I would say you are correct. "as i have no sales i wasnt sure what to improve" I provided you with a possible solution above: make something that saves them time so they should be well detailed and in demand. "Do you think i could still find success if i continue making assets of my theme (sci-fi / future)" Sure why not, if you have done your research you should have an idea about the analytics, and what artists are looking for specifically in that theme. I'm sure you have asked people on other forums and social networks what they want, what would help them do their job better, how large the potential market is for that content etc right?

So, i should focus just as much on the store page as the model? Or atleast do better.

Of course. Renders should be clean and attractive. Details should be clearly visible. In addition model should be in the center and must fit completely into previews.

If selling sci-fi panels isn’t working, perhaps try something else. Perhaps people just aren’t looking for sci-fi panels now or they’re looking for something a bit more advanced.

I was hoping that by creating some variations of models i could see what people liked more. And by advanced do you mean models that are higher quality, larger or what?

Most of your models are a conglomeration of simple primatives any accomplished modeller could put together in a few seconds. It would take longer to purchase and download your model than it would to make one.

As an example of a high level in the sci-fi theme, you can view this profile https://www.cgtrader.com/ociacia

And also see how designed renders, what prices, etc. That's the level you should be focusing on. If it seems that this is impossible, you are mistaken. It’s quite possible, and it’s not necessary to work in 3ds Max for this, blender is also quite suitable.
