How long does it take to make money from selling 3d models

Discussion started by muhammedneumann

Hello folks, i'm new to the selling part industry and it seems the market is already over saturated , just in term of curiosity and this question to the CG trader veterans who have spent long time here does making 200 $ per month is something achievable in these days ? and how much time it takes to achieve such results if i can have a 1 year plan until i make money is it a fair amount of time ? and of course i'm talking here about High Quality models

Thank you for your patience

Kind regards

I would say with 50-100 high quality products you can certainly reach $200 per month. Probably much more if you have a good niche or sell products that are in demand. I've seen some veterans averaging $6,000 per month (but I don't know what they were selling, they obviously have a good niche).

1 year is a good target to aim for to begin with, just be aware most sales/business works on a linear curve. This means that your first year will probably bring you in less than you expect, but your second, third, fourth year will be much better. If you keep a steady pace (uploading a new product every week or two), I will say you would probably double your income every year as long as you have good descriptions, ratings/feedback, etc.

Also take into consideration the ceiling point. I haven't hit this yet but from reading other artists experience apparently once a model has been on the shelf 5 years its basically hit its ceiling. Software, workflows, designs/trends etc. have changed and thus the product may not sell frequently or at all by that point. My opinion is that you treat a product like that with an upsell - meaning its probably due an update/makeover or combine it into a collection package with some of your items that do sell well. This is basically called upselling, kind of similar to how you get discounts on swimwear in winter.

Probably you made 4 models on 1 targeted niche ? from what i saw inside your profile you have a great talent with hard surface modeling may be you should vary things a little bit , for me i've only uploaded 2 models since the last week on different categories and i'm also working on my 3rd one on another niche as well
