I'm so sorry everyone, this post was about free models but from when I found that turbo squad have no free models so I decide to sell models cause free models will down CGTrader and I'm asking you designers to sell yours. Thanks!
That's right! If you give away free models that is super bad. People still don't understand it. If Turbosquid is not giving away free 3D models then they are getting ahead of CGT and they will become better respected from buyers.
I always said this free samples should only be offered to return buyers or to customers who really build trust with you not just given out to everyone.
Giving away everything for free is why this industry is damaged and unprofitable.
The magicians in the magic circle hated giving away there secrets . Illusions now have adapted and changed new tricks had to evolve. It not just about 3d model but marketing a 3d model . A free 3d model is similar to taster samples in supermarkets to sell a larger product . which could be classed getting trafic to your webpage then giving them something free while selling them something .

512pixel That is only true if used sparingly like they do at Yogurtland, Shiseido, La Mer or Costco where they get you in the store first and while you are browsing you get to try free samples and that makes you interested and then buy them.
It does not work with virtual content. That might work with 3D prints but not 3D models and so people should stop doing it because it is pointless and only attracts free loaders.
It is only smart to give things away to your close friends, family or return buyers who have been buying your models consistently over the years.
Anyone who works in a real store will tell you the same thing... free is good only if given to people who matter.
Just look at the Apple store! They rarely give anything away for free. They are so smart about making their stores a hot spot for people to hang out and then people think that there is something fun and cool going on inside and get drawn in.
If I had a say in how to enhance CGT I would open a CGT store and do what the apple people do. Make it like an internet Cafe where people come in sit down play with friends and then you could have some really cool 3D prints everyone can take a look at and hold.
Finally then people may actually get interested in 3D because the customer base for 3D is super small compared to the other industries like the food, industrial etc...
CGT needs to find a way like this one to broaden it's customer base. Most companies these days are getting bought out by Disney or going under... just look at Marvel... they were dead until Disney pitched in.
How freebies can gain win new clients = cash
Andrew kramer the owner of video co pilot .net started around year 2008ish giving away free tutorials on creative cow . He was the main star his free tutorials gave away so many industry secrets on particle effects in the design industry . He never charged for these tutorials. This provided andrew kramer with platform to show case his skills to potential clients . Andrew kramer later developed his own company video co pilot.net and worked on big movie title last year wrath of khan star trek .

Did you ever hear about Blizzard, Square Enix, Capcom, namco etc... giving away free samples of 3D models? No because that is stupid.
Only individuals like Kramer did that but they were already quite famous and super talented so people would by their stuff anyway.
It is a poor business strategy and that is why no top company does it.
The only a few individuals looking for fame like Kramer do that and their goal is to get more famous to get hired by top companies but they are not in it for the return sales or living off their 3D sales.
Even Disney never gives out free 3D models. They will sometimes give out free toys, T shirts, buttons etc but never 3D models.
Did you know the cost of the playstation 3 was more expensive at themanafacture cost. That was big company loss sony was hoping to make the profit back in games sales. . Companys dont start out big but small use what ever platform you can to win clients . That is already what he said. Giving away free stuff is only good if the quality of your renders is amazing and leads to getting a job but awful for sales. As you said sony took losses on consoles not on 3d models. You can sell actual physical objects at a loss but not conceptual ones.
I think its great designer we have an option to either sell the models or give them free. Which I mentioned earlier. If you give your model away free like fonts, graphics, 3d models use the opportunity for free advertising. It was my reputation i make sure the render is best quality. If model is poor quality even if its free it won't get downloaded.
What you just said is also not true...
in my experience, (10 or more years of posting models) all of my models I ever put up for free always got downloaded no matter the standard. I have had profiles on Turbosquid here and many other places.
Whenever I put up a free model it always got free loaded.
On the other hand not all of my models have been bought. When I started out I also fell in the trap of giving things away for free or under cutting the market and selling things at 1 dollar but soon I realized that it does not pay off and it drives the value of 3D into the ground.
Also when you put your models up for free... as the 3D market of true buyers is so limited everyone hurries up to grab your models because no one really wants to pay for things unless they have to. If everyone has your models then why would they need to come to you unless they need something made from scratch?
That is the reason why free models are great to get you a job... they are like a calling card or sample so that a company will want to hire you to make more in their style if you meet their standards but it is terrible for online store owners who are trying to sell models consistently without having to make new ones all the time.
How many models have you sold 512pixel directly on CGT or other platforms? Somehow I doubt that you have clients paying you 50 to 100 dollars consistently every week. If you are able to make ends meet as a 3D modeler and online store and are making at least 25 k per year selling models I will shut up right now because you obviously know what you are doing.
In my experience though that is highly unlikely. Most people can barely sell one model every 2 or three months and those people are the best of the best. They are also able to sell models at higher prices like 300 to 500 range and so that kind of money if earned on a consistent basis can be considered a real job.
If you are doing well 512pixel it is probably because you are earning you keep working at a company or have established a personal clientele who knows you by name and you meet up with on a regular basis.
i like to keep this proffessional lets not get personal . There pros and cons to both sides of free and not free i understadnn your point of veiw . . You can easily freely download models on the internet even if cg trader wasnt available . Deviant art many other sites.
I dont want get personal on this subject . I worked for web anywhere professional graphic designer which supported 3000 schools with web and elearning materials. I graduated at the university of teesside (st class degree). I have other skills which are design related illustration animation , design . i dont just 3d model . I have tried to inform how giving away something can freely advertise your product you must have missed that . yes tshirt costs alot money to print ask any art worker . giving away a tshirt costs .

No no, I am not getting personal at all. I just want to make sure the newbies know what they are getting into because I learned all this crap the hard way.
The best way for CGT to solve this problem would be to create a plug in that make free models non editable and non renderable. This way if true professionals, buyers etc who are serious about buying stuff want to sample they can do it without stealing.
this was sent to me on my models. I cant see how thats a bad thing . Ive explained free is advertising . advertising normally costs money. you can put ur name and ur business name on the side of free models then you have free advertising space . if person uses your model in there game . Even if they take the map off you still will advertise ur product .

People steal models all the time. When you give away a free model people download it, make a few mods, re texture it and sell it as their own. It is much faster to modify a stollen model than to make a new one.
