Editing & Editorial Licenses

Discussion started by hgdragonite

Hello! I'm very new to CGTrader and 3D modeling in general. I'm making a short film for a virtual production class, and as I'm using some Jedi OCs of mine, I've been trying to find Jedi robes for them. I found some here, and I was going to edit them to fit my model and recolor them.

However, this model has an editorial license, so I'm not sure if editing them the way I intend to is legal. My short film is not for commercial purposes, but I still want to make sure I wouldn't be infringing on anything if I were to edit the robes. I've read the CGTrader licensing documentation about this, but I'm still pretty confused. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

The model in question is the rip from video game, downloaded from warez site an re-posted by some chap here. Using that model or any part of it in your film would be already illegal, not to mention that editorial license in general is forbidding such usage, unless your short is newsworthy, which is highly unlikely.

Oh dear—somehow I missed that. I'm not familiar with all of this stuff yet, so thank you so much for clarifying that for me. I really appreciate it! I'll make sure to research such things carefully in the future.
