Downloadable tutorial asset

Discussion started by maher-william-j

Hi,

I have a question about distribution of content.

I am making a Digital Tutors/Pluralsight tutorial about Renderman and would like to use: This car

It would be a downloadable Maya file for subscribed users. Is this ok under the terms and conditions of use?

I dont have to include the Porsche logo. I just need a good asset and Desmonsters cars look great.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Hi, itis certainly not ok. You're not allowed to distribute content that you've bought, unless it was acquired with certain CC license, or with exclusive license. Otherwise it will be illegal act.

You can't. Well, you could contact model's owner and ask him to release his model under creative commons (CC) license, but that would mean that he have to give model for free to you and to anyone else. I doubt that he would agree to do that :] Other option would be ask him to sell model exclusively to you. That way, you'd become owner of the model and he retains authorship only. That would also mean, that he won't be allowed to sell this model anymore and he have to remove it from here and from anywhere else. Needless to say that exclusive license usually costs much more than regular one.
