3D content rent (?)

Discussion started by cadavrius

Hello 3D professionals,

I represent
a startup that builds a marketplace for Augmented Reality (AR). It‘s similar to
WIX, but for AR.

Our team
came up with a very important question. Would all specialists like you guys agree
to rent for money your created 3D content (AR templates, 3D models, 3D elements
etc.)? That is if your models were accessible to rent for customers in our AR marketplace.
You would earn extra money for that.

Generally
speaking, when a customer picks one of our AR templates, he can whether use it
as it is or customize it by adding his own content (models, text, pics, videos & etc.) or choose one of the third
party’s offered content – your content. After all, you get the money.

We would
REALLY appreciate your feedback.

Due to
respect to CGT team, we won’t disclose our IDs.

Thank’s a
lot!

Okay, sounds good on paper, but he would have the power to keep the model, by saving it elsewhere on his machine. Right?

Hey guys, thanks for your response and sorry for the delay answering this issue. Firstly is that each model is encrypted so that it will be extremely hard and very time wasting in order to get that 3D model. What is more, who would even try to waste hours or days for ripping your 20$ model? Did I answer your question? :)

No :( If these were up for rent, when someone rents them, they would be able to save them on their desktop for instance, and keep the model :(

Joey, it is a kind of hard and long process. Few who would decide to spend hours to hack a 3d model. We think it will be ok with this issue.

That's fine, but personally I don't think people who try their models for thousands of dollars, should rent them out for a quarter of the price........... BUT if your plan worked and you made sure that they could not keep the items for good, I think it'd be a great idea! And I would rent out my models as well :)

This is generally called "selling 3d models", in the same way we do there. Why you say "rent"? I can't see any difference...

Selling is when you sell copyrights of your product. Renting is when someone use your model for a limited period of time, but don't own it for life. To my mind its different :)
