What would you like to see more on CGTrader?

Discussion started by digitalkonstrukt

Hey @ all,

how I asked in the title I would know what type of content or asstes you like to see more on CGTrader? Maybe some of those topics exists but I want to ask directly :). I think there are a lot of content out there but in many differenty styles and so on. For example at the moment I build up a custom 3D scanner on my own and like to know if there is a need about scanned 3D models?

I think there is a need for many types of models but it is hard to know exactly what kind because unlike when you are selling fruit or other food at the store it is obvious who is going to buy it. Everyone has to eat so it is quite likely that if you are a farmer growing fruit that if you sell GMO you will get a certain type of client and if you sell organic another.

If you know who your clients are and their specific needs it then becomes easy to build things they might want or need.

With 3D modeling there is too much guess work. There are clients who want 3D prints, others who want super low poly that runs on phone apps, others need mid poly that is still very realistic, others need caricatures and the list goes on and on.

I think you will mixed opinions on this topic. Some people seem to sell sets very well, others cars but others say that selling things in bulk is better. Of course you also get the custom 3D scans of people that are pretty popular these days.

I'm fairly new to 3D modeling myself, but the way I've always gone about selling items is to sell items your buyers didn't know they wanted. Figure out what niche you personally like and identify with most, and stick to that type of model the best you can. This is good for getting repeat buyers and people to come to your shop regularly. Create items that fill the need of that niche first and foremost, but make them stand out and really tell the buyer that they will not be able to get something exactly like it anywhere else.

I think you have a good thing going with the survival game items, and to answer your question, personally, I would love to see more survival game items. They are fairly uncommon on cg trader and they fill the need of a niche. You also don't have to make new items all the time, you can make different styles of similar assets. If you sell lots of different shovels, for example, your buyers will be more confident that someone won't use the exact shovel they want in another game. I'm not saying you have to stick to survival game items, but it wouldn't hurt. You could have a lot of control over that market in the long run.

I exactly see it the same as a-pilch, the internet is connecting us globally and with large hubs like CGtrader collecting digital goods of all types and providing it through a search-able user interface allows us to serve the niches in ways unimaginable 10 years ago. If there are just few people in the world that would like your stuff then those few will find your stuff.

You can basically experiment freely to see what kicks in and what not and just go wild on the creative side and create the things you love to create.

The ideas on how to make it in a product and market it basically flow alongside that creative process, questions like how could it be used, what can be done with it, etc.? If you can transmit some of those ideas then you basically create a need on the fly as it can trigger some imagination or initiation points for projects.

There are lots of creatives that go for inspiration hunting looking for something but not knowing jet what, just something that can jump start them, to get a vision or direction, a starting point. It can basically be anything, maybe some alien looking rock formations or some strange looking architectures/elements, anything.

You can gradually build up your own specific repository of elements and market it to every new opportunity that arises, like for example the social VR spaces that are coming up soon, etc.

There are infinite design possibility's, basically endless idea space to create in. I would encourage anyone to go and explore that space and keep trying to pull out more interesting stuff all the time, but try to establish what type of stuff one would like to pull out fist. Maybe you like fantasy characters or monsters, or design vehicles, maybe space ships, motion graphics, abstract forms or machine parts, or robots, etc.

It basically does not matter, there always would be someone that can use it, but the important part is that it needs to be of a certain quality, so as an artist one needs to take time and invest effort to grow and get to that level where he starts getting sales.

Hey :)

I'm very impressed about your replies! Thank you very much...I'll be sure that we have to find our place here at first. Here are so many fantastic models and as iterateCGI said:

How long does it take for you to grow here? I mean...2/3..10 months or (a) year(s)?

Kind regards

It really depends on the 3D artist. If you are really good at tagging, writing proper model descriptions, have good quality models and are great at social media and creating your own clients then you can do pretty well and fast.

If on the other hand your models are not of high quality and you are not good at making them visible on the market it could take quite a while.

The best part about the Cgtrader community is that if you are having some trouble you will always find great people to help guide you and help you improve.

Basically on Cgtrader the more you put into the site the more you get back and you are not on your own.

That would most probably be different from person to person, some would need years to get somewhere, others maybe months. It depends on many factors and there are also lots of different directions to evolve into. Most Important factor is how much the person is focusing and investing in getting somewhere with his skills (no matter for what direction).

The thing one is focusing on will also determine part of the length.
For example when someone would focus on delivering photogrammetry assets then that would take less time to get good results compared to someone that is training himself to deliver unique concepts and model them manually.

In the one example the challenges to overcome are pure technical.
In the other example the challenges are also technical but additionally have to do with creativity and getting a feeling for unique design and shapes (more subjective and emotional world to get to understand,”what would be unique design?”).

I think it’s important to feel what one would like to do or achieve in his life and then just keep at it no matter how much time that takes (just always get better). It’s basically choosing a lifestyle with this kind of stuff, so it’s important one feels comfortable with that lifestyle (maybe call it an artist lifestyle).

If it’s just for the money then one is probably going to get disappointed.
If it’s because one wants to be a creative and would like to grow creatively and be part of a creative community then that would be great, one will always find ways to support that life if that is indeed the life he wants (selling stock media is just a possible part of that).

To best answer your question up top though I would say that I wish to see more original content. Assets, characters and props that are original and unique... things you can't find in stores or that have been copied from a movie.

I made a post dedicated to this kind of content to give a shout out to artists that are skilled but that also like to think outside the box and make things that are strange and new and fascinating.

https://www.cgtrader.com/forum/topics/i-am-going-to-start-a-list-to-promote-artists-who-are-making-great-models-but-just-aren-t-getting-the-views

Having said that making that kind of content is a risk because it does not always sell but it certainly turns heads and sets artists apart from everyone else.
