What makes a model Low-Poly?

Discussion started by HashirHasni

How do you classify if a model is Low-Polygon or not.
I mean, is there any Set Standard which indicates this?
Or if the faceted appearance of characters and models make them Low-Poly.
Or is it some sort of polygon count which tells that the model is detailed or low-polygon?
I want to know if my models will come under the low-polygon category or not.

Up to 100K polygons, maybe a little more but less the better.
No standards and faceted appearance is a stylization and not a condition.
Low poly models can look smooth like a high poly.

For Vehicules, 200-400K polygons are sometimes considered Low poly. For some basic objects like mods for games (GTA 5, MSFS or roblox etc..), 10-30K are usually low poly models. So mostly, each object has a different range (poly count) in which it can be considered as low poly.

Also depends from overall size. Like if that's just a car model or the whole residential tower model with props attached.

You can have a car with 1 000 000 polygons and that same car with 5000 polygons, you can have whole residential area with 5 000 000 polygons and you can have that same residential area with 100 000 , so , how it depends on overall size ?

Yeah, weak argument, we can approach this from needed detailing, not the actual one.
