What do these people think when they post a design request online?
Do they think, designer are very easy job and must be too cheap?

They need a CAD design mit Solidworks, not a mesh design which is easier. No they need industrial design with multiparts and details. And that must be for 80.

That is how everyone gets the jobs these days. You put a job up for 100 most people will say 50 dollars or lower and the job poster is not going to go for those who said 100. That is just how it is. In general especially with 3d projects people will go with the lower offer simply because they know there will be more edits to be done in future. 3D is not like building a wall. Most of the time the job needs to be done multiple times to get it to be just right.
i am a web developer and have used freelancer for years, around 2 years ago I stopped using freelancer just because of the same problem you start to see here on cgtrader. Earlier bidding on jobs was hard competition and prices had little variation, these days on freelancer bidding on projects is not even worth the hassle cause people from india, pakistan, china are killing the bid rounds with low bids on high value work.
That is right globalism is horrible! The only way to stop it is make sure that the value of all currency is the same everywhere then no one can undercut
It is true that when a designer takes a job for next to nothing that will reduce the value of the work overall and gradually over time bring the market down in value per job but will also over time increase the number of people that can afford the work and more can be done. However when the work becomes so cheap that a designer can't afford to do it and make any profit at all, then there is always the designer in a much poorer country that will under price everyone and do the job making his or her life better. That is the nature of the global economy. Look at Manufacturing, and how it has moved from US and Europe to Mexico, China and other countries. It is not so good either because Chinese and Mexican quality is poor, and most of the time so is the 3d designer modeler who works in a poor third world country with pirated software.
True or if some artists can accomplish the task they get injured doing it at that speed. Like every important job 3d should not be rushed like that. The biggest problem is that the competition is so high and the job market is so shaky that people get desperate and take on such crazy jobs. Cgt is trying to step up and work as a mini union to protect 3d artists and this community of artists is also stepping in to lend a hand.
I see this type of mentality of 'if I post my product cheaper than my competitors then I'll get the business!' taken to the extreme on some of the freelance job websites (peopleperhour,guru,fiver/etc) where people will have a page saying 'I can sculpt, retopo, UV, texture, rig, animate, and render a character for you for 10$ in 2 days, or an extra 20$ to make it 1 day. I'm sorry but that's just about literally impossible unless your character is extremely simple.
People who actually buy these lowest on the site prices will get lowest quality on the site, that's my assumption..Nobody's superhuman and artists shouldn't have to resort to this behaviour just to vie for a buyer's attention. Of course I'm sure some of these are actually scams, which is a whole other issue
The bottom line answer to this subject is that any artist from a country where the cost of living and taxes are low and they do not enforce copyright protection for software, have a distinct advantage over those of us who live in a country with much higher cost of living, taxes and enforced regulations. This might be considered social justice in some ways although it is not fair to those of us who buy software, pay high taxes and higher costs of living. But we, those who are required by economic condition must find other avenues to attract and keep project work from other clients. Dreamscape simply provides the best project possible and makes sure to make each and every client a repeat client by keeping costs low, quality high and turn-around fast. We stick to a few subjects to insure that we are working in a field we know and that insures we do a great job. I do hope that the artist getting these low cost jobs through CGTrader benefit from them and do a great job. If they don't we will be here for that client who is not satisfied with the work that they get on the low cost end of the scale.
Yes CGT does it's best to keep things running well and does a really good job compared to a lot of other sites but it is just not cost effective to do something like that. Checking every job would require a whole team of HR people to take care of it.
jmjwall14 I am only able to afford 20 to 30 dollars per job because my sales are low but I hope that one day if I start making lots of sales I can support a larger group of artists. Well, as someone living in Switzerland, this would not even cover me to go sit down somewhere and start working on something like this. Artist freelancers here try to charge at least 120$/hour. But let's say someone in Indonesia wants to work on it, 80 would probably be not bad. That's the problem with the internet, it's so very global :)
But I guess there is nothing we can do about it, unless CGTrader wants to check every job offer. In the end, ist just normal market - supply and demand regulate the price.
I have a patron of the arts for quite some time but I can only put money back into the system. Based on how much I sell on CGT. That is why I price my models around 33 because every time I make a sale I can then pay an artist to work on a new project. I pick the jobs carefully and try my best not to ask too much for the price I pay.
Someone will reply out of desperation... being an artist sucks! It is the worst job in the world and artists always get treated like dirt. I think it only makes sense to be an artist if you live in a country where the conversion rate works in your favor else it is just a waste of time. It is so hard for any artist to make a decent living unless they are working at places like Blizzard. Even then it is hard because you are so easily replaceable. Too many people want the job you hold. You make one silly mistake and you loose you job to someone else.
Yes, but the platforms must decide which quality and which mix of designer they want to work there. People in very cheap countries can earn more when the platforms set the prices fair as guide. The guide is important because a lot of clients and also designer have no ideas about that and think, the low prices are the normal. This msut be changed.
The problem is this and I have been telling people about it for quite some time. 80 dollars is super cheap for some and a good price for others but that entirely depends on where you live. If you live in India, Africa, Mexico and China etc... 80 dollars is pretty good with the conversion but of course if you live in the USA, England, Europe then 80 is really low especially for a CAD or Solid works model. I mean if it were just a regular 3D model that did not have to be to perfect scale etc... then it may be reasonable but that is my two cents on the matter. What do you guys think of the conversion rate issue?
I agree that cheapest is not usually better, and many companies hire these people and get what they pay for, usually garbage. Mesh models for visualization are not for mechanical design and mechanical design models are not for visualization. We can do both. Each are difficult in their own right and both if done properly should pay an artist or modeler a good wage. Most good models take from 10-20 hours to build. textures even more. Try and build that in either case for $20.00 budgets. I do not even bid any longer. It is not worth my time. I get better results with my own web site for model requests. They come from serious people and companies.
it is ridiculous. They had the job up for $100 then took it down for and put it up again for $80. maybe we could get cgtrader to advise the people who upload job offers (probably already in place) if you go by minimum wage in my country its 9 hours work. this looks like it would take a lot longer.
