What do you guys want to see when you are going to purchase any 3D models ?

Discussion started by Xiang-King

Dear Game Developer / Arch Viz Artist / Anyone who are buying any 3d products,

I am really curious about what you guys are thinking when you are decided to purchase any of the products in any 3d platform. I've some question below

Question 1 :
What do you guys always look first, before you purchase any 3d products ? ( Quality , Price , Others )

Question 2 ( Game Developer ) :
Do you guys prefer to buy any products that is already has Optimized Texture, Polycounts and LOD ( Higher Price ) ? Or without ( Lower Price )

( Lower Price )
- 3D Model
- Optimize Polycount
- 4k Textures

( Higher Price )
- Game Ready
- Optimized Texture for games
- Optimize Polycount
- LOD
- Manual Collision Box

Question 3 :
Does 3D Viewer ( sketchfab / marmoset toolbag ) helps you to decide, before purchase any products ?

Or any others opinion you wan to say please comments below.

Thank You.

Does 3D Viewer helps you to decide, before purchase any products ?

I mean the 3d view ( Marmoset Toolbag / Sketchfab ), so you can view the asset first before purchase the products.

I think CgTrader doesn't have a sketchfab viewer due to security issues. However, it would be more useful than marmoset if it were.

Just be aware when it comes to the 3D viewer, models can be extracted/stolen through this interface.

Yes, especially sketchfab is not used for this reason.

Thanks 3DCargo and Quiper for the answer. Does marmoset 3d viewer also is a " no no " to put in any website ? To prevent anyone to rip off our models ?

For the first question, I can say that quality is a priority, but at the same time, the appropriate price range is important. Although some models are of good quality, their extremely expensive prices can prevent sales. However, very low prices for quality models can disrupt the general price balance. I think sellers should pay attention to their price range.

Hi Quiper. I agreed with you. But to be honest the price range in 3d platform is a mess T^T ...

Yes absulately right. In addition, it is getting more complex with new models added every day.

Perhaps CgTrader can put a warning text on this issue, especially before sharing models. More measures may need to be taken in the future. We will see this over time.

To answer your questions, in my opinion:

Question 1:
- Quality

Question 2 ( Game Developer ) :
- Price isnt important, as long as its roughly the market price
- Optimized Polygon count + PBR textures atleast 2048x2048
- Not required but useful to have 2 LOD's
- The rest of these things arent important as the game engine can handle this if the polygon count/texture is optimized.

Question 3 :
- I already answered above, but you can also do turntable renders, 12 images 360 degrees, wireframe render, uv render is enough to make a smart purchase.

all the best.

which platfrom should you make turntable render .. which prefered platform .... i normaly make my renders in 3ds max .. looking above people seem to be more in favour of pbr () 3ds max does not display pbr very welll.....

@512pixel, what do you mean by this, this is entirely Render Engine related. I use 3dsmax as my main 3D tool and I do all my work in PBR now, it works perfectly fine in Vray, Corona and Arnold.

Also, once its set up correctly in 3dsmax, it will transfer to any 3d application that uses PBR workflow, I output my models to blender, c4d, gltf, obj, fbx and (sometimes) unreal engine and they all look exactly the same.

One thing that's helpful I find on items that are more than just a simple mesh (complex materials, particle effects, volumetrics, etc) is a description of the basic techniques used, to help me figure out if it'll likely even be compatible with what I'm doing, especially across software versions. Just putting "Blender 2.75" as a version number tells me relatively little, some files will be easily handled by later releases but some will be totally broken

hell brick mark would like video evidence showing the export into blender and showing how map work to help you render( getting those results) ... i suppose we can show that throuhg you tube preview when selling the models ....... support later enable you get exports in to blender......
