Some questions about the .fbx file format

Discussion started by electricmotors

Hi there,

I hope anyone can advice me about this: I create my models with Autodesk Inventor and I also offer them in Autocad .dwg file format.

But I've noticed that there are a lot of models available in .fbx file format on CGtrader. So now I exported one model from Autocad to .fbx file format as a test.

My questions are:

  1. Could one of you try to open my .fbx file in your software and give an opinion about the quality. Because I have no software to open these kind of file-types.

  2. In what softare is the .fbx file format used?

  3. Is it worth the work to make also .fbx files of my models? I mean: are they used a lot?

The fbx file can be found here

Thanks in advance,

Hello,
I opened your file.
1. Quality: Your FBX hase 15256 polys, the model has very many separated parts. It can be used.
2. Many 3d sofrwares can import FBX. Other popular format is OBJ.
3. It's good to have many formats.

Your model looks good! It's a good idea to publish the default saved format of your used software.

.fbx is used for models with animation data included ,
It is a commonly required format for game developers so that when they import a model it comes with its walk cycle, jump etc. all available to them
