qualify free 3d models

Discussion started by Noker

I think it should be possible to qualify free 3d models as well and not just the purchased models. Do you think it should be like this or not?

I don't see any disadvantages of adding free models or sharing links to other free models repositories (only to free, because links to payed resources makes some people to buy not from CGTrader but from somewhere else, which is not good). Some may think that free models will compete with payed models, but experience of, for example TurboSquid, shows that nobody will share high quallity models for free if they can sell them.

qualify free 3d models for what???? Best recommendation is to NOT have free models....whole point is to make money , i understand giving free ones so they can see your quality of work, but let your renderings and wireframes do the talking.

What do you mean by saying qualify free models? An option to give ratings for them? That would be instant failure of all rating system, why would cgtrader want that?

There is ability to like free models as well as not free, so, what else you want?
BTW, I have many free models in my profile and I'm not sure they rise my sales.

Yes, this is the main purpose for 3d models is to show the quality of your work and sometimes it's not enough to just show screenshots with wire-frames, nice render etc. Lot's of people want to "touch" the model. C'mon, even serious firms post free downloadable 3d models to let people see the quality. Like this guys: https://www.artec3d.com/3d-models They sell scanners, but they are not afraid to let people to download examples. Even if user can scale and rotate the model in the viewer. I've also read a research by one guy (can't find the link, sorry) on Turbosquid. He'd found that artist who had good free models had more sales of their payed models.

In other hand, you can't stop altruists from sharing their models for free.
