problem with exporting obj file

Discussion started by milja1121

Hello everybody,

I have problem with exporting .obj file from 3ds max. When I try to import back to max, not show the texture. Actually they show only one texture for all in my scene. I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Some of you may have solution for my problem. I would be very happy :-)

As far as I am concerned (I work with Microstation), when exporting an obj. file a .obj and a .mtl file gets exported. Maybe you could try not to import it like (data - import - .obj... and so on.) Try to drag and drop the .obj file together with the .mtl file into 3ds max. In Microstation this works and the texture is shown.
Also make sure thet the .obj file and the .mtl file are at the same place on your computer.
Regards,
Christoph

Yes, I know that .obj and .mtl file should be at the same folder. I never had a problem with that until now. Scene is large, and i try to export in parts, but i get the same result , one texture apply for all in my scene. Thanks Christoph for you reply

Oh, ok. I'm sorry but I can't help you further as I only work with Microstation and do not know how to deal with different file formats in other CAD programmes. :/

Anyone knows user configuration path for exporting OBJ from Microstation to 3D Studio Max without the lengthy material names with material palette name and filenames? It's annoying to rename them once imported in 3D studio max. For example..export reads "molding_arch_Gothic_Door.dgn_roof_refined_spiralkit_6c14_vis" where I want to see "molding_arch" only. Thanks!
