Premium Spam On Free Asset Filter? (Temporary or Permanent?)

Discussion started by qent00003

I have been looking around on this site for about a month now and its without a doubt one of the best sites out there. Because I'm taking my time on my first game, I have a very low budget to work with. I occasionally buy some specific assets, however more times than not I go for the free assets.

[I would buy more to support creators If I had more cash to spare.]

But just recently I come here and put on the free filter and I noticed that half of the page is filled with paid for assets, even though I clicked the free filter. Before when you clicked the free filter it would have 4 Premium assets on the top, but everything below was free. Now its every 4 assets it switches from Free to Premium which not only makes my searches longer and tedious, but now I have twice or more the amount of pages to go through. What would usually have only 2 pages of free assets is now 4 to 5 pages with the mixing of the premium stuff.

(Before You Yell At Me About The Obvious)

I get what they are trying to do, its to promote paid for assets to increase sales. That's fine I honestly wouldn't mind it so much if it wasn't so forced and frequent, if it was every 8 free assets comes 4 premium I wouldn't make a big deal about it, I probably wouldn't have made this post.

But to me the way it is right now defeats the point of the filter :-/

(Questions)

-Is this change Temporary or Permanent?

-If its permanent then whats the point of a free filter anymore?

I made this post mainly to get a better understanding of whats happening and if anyone else is feeling the same way about this as I am, because so far no one is really talking about this at all.

I'm here to sell products, not to buy or look for free, but despite that, recent changes towards free models doesn't make much sense for me. It looks bad, it looks cheap, it feels pointless. I completely agree with OP - one line of premium products on top was fine, second line at the bottom would be acceptable, but that zebra pattern like it is now is just plain stupid IMHO. You can't force or trick people to buy things if their sole intention is to look for free content. I'd say, either forbid free models on CGT althogether or remove those cheap looking unnecessary obstacles.

There was few very loud users that constantly complained about free content destroying all industry, maybe CGT team just cracked under their pressure?

I think that free items must to be used by the artist as free sample of his works, other use have no sense for me...

I only share free models so people can sample my work. I dont agree with the way that CGT is displaying them in the free filter now, but at the end of the day. Im here to sell my models. I spend tons of time putting together models, and many of mine are priced far below what I would ever deem profitable. We have to be compensated somehow, or modelers would have no incentive to share. Ive made games in the past, and I bought countless models on the unity asset store. Its just part of doing business.

Hello, please fix the filters so if we are looking for free models it only displays free models! It makes no sense having a free checkbox and still displaying more premium than free... I know that this place needs to make money with premium sales but forcing them just makes it look cheap!
I gave up after a couple pages and moved on to other places that offers the same models!
