Pirate Wet3D has been selling Rockstar environmental assets here for 2 years now

Discussion started by antifraud

User Wet3D (aka MuildBuild on TS) has been selling Rockstar Games environmental assets from GTA IV and Mafia II for a long time here. This was reported several months ago by another user:

https://www.cgtrader.com/forum/site-suggestions-and-feedback/wet3d-building-models-use-textures-from-gta-and-possibly-other-games

I've been collecting proofs for 3 days, I hope there are enough evidences now:

Just a teaser to make this post harder to ignore:

Now that's an extensive investigation! It's a shame to see that someone has already reported the user a year ago and he is still allowed to carry illegal activity. Make sure to contact the support directly, so they won't have an excuse and leave the crook to damage marketplace's reputation.

@antifraud It may be a good idea to send a copy of the report to Rockstar Games too.
Many gamedevs have no idea that thieves sell their work illegally.

@antifraud, good work, but stay tuned as this thief is very likely to show up again. The TS user no longer exists.

It is not a shame, it is shameful and with regrets this serious problem will not be solved. Once again CGT shows that it does not do enough, even when it is aware of the infractions. Due to his negligence, dozens of buyers have been scammed and in addition to the blow to his battered reputation, CGT will have to return thousands of dollars to those buyers, as it said it does in this thread:

https://www.cgtrader.com/forum/selling-buying-3d-models/purchasing-potentially-stolen-models

Although that will not compensate for other damages, such as delays in your projects and therefore more economic losses, or possible legal problems.

Informing the true owner is a good idea, but in the case of models taken from games, sometimes it is not possible, because these companies are very volatile and disappear quickly. Many of the thieves know this circumstance and take advantage of it.

I sent an email to Take2Games copyright branch two and a half months ago, for them to have time to take legal actions before the pirated products being removed eventually.
I got no answer, and apparently they took no action, not here at least. Anyway, this doesn't mean they approve Wet3D selling their assets neither that they gave Wet3D permissions for doing so, just in case someone is assessing whether or not to ban this pirate.
This is clearly inadmissible and should be prosecuted.

Currently, investigating this type of things here on cgt (although every honest person here appreciate that) is a waste of time, mechanism that should prevent this kind of things simply doesn't exist here on cgt. Why it doesn't exist for so long that's another story. Some answers can be found in that topic that Tecna posted.

Im the poster of that older thread. I contacted support as they told me, cant remember what they said because its so long ago and i cant find anything in my message history, they refunded the money but kept the models up still which is weird to me.

@ radicalradish55, thanks for your answer. I'm glad you got your money back, it's a ray of hope for other buyers of these models. You are right, it is strange, if those models had been eliminated then, the damages would have been less for everyone, including them. I believe that if all those affected get their money back, that will improve CGT's reputation and help them to be more diligent in solving this problem in an effective and permanent way.

CGTrader is pretending this thread never existed. Please all of us report every product on a day to day basis and provide a link towards here in the message. Alternatively send an email to info@cgtrader.com reporting the whole profile https://www.cgtrader.com/wet3d
Thank you

Did you reported it to support@cgtrader.com with the proof you collected?

I'm reporting one by one but linking this thread in the message. They are taking no action towards the models not already reported... I have some reasons for not sending them an email, anyone of you can do it anyway.

Just use the green "(?)Help" button and report several models at once. I looked a few and can't see the models from your screenshots on the account.
