PINTEREST: any pinners on CGt? what do you think?

Discussion started by Juste

Hey everyone,

I've recently put together a brief blog post on Pinterest and the benefits that come with it. You can have a quick read here (max 5min): https://www.cgtrader.com/blog/designers-it-s-time-to-embrace-pinterest

I wanted to get your thoughts on this idea.. Do you use Pinterest? (If so, how has it been working for you?) Are you planning to join the platform? Do you need any help/advice? :) Give me a shout if you do!

* patiently waiting for feedback * :)

Hello Juste,

Verry good idea, it indeed generates extra traffic.
I have had a pinterest account (http://nl.pinterest.com/iterateCGI/) for a while now but never had pin boards myself, used to look at things en drop them to my own folders on my PC.

After your post I took some time to make some nice boards and follow you guys on pinterest and also looked more into the hole pinterset thing. It is actually a great source of inspiration and a great marketing tool and a lot more. Saw this helpful video to learn some more (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNd9o_WoaSw)

To my surprise my mailbox floods with pinterest activety now, so I need to uncheck some things in my profile page otherwise the stream is not workable. So I have around 30 followers in about 2 day's now and an amount of activity I cannot follow any more (maybe just let notice come through when someone follows, although I would like to know hoe pins one of my products).

I made a board that includes my own products and linked every pin to my profile page here on CGt. Also some of my Vimeo presentation movies are on the board (this could generate some extra traffic to the vimeo channel as well "which is good for raking over there") (http://vimeo.com/channels/690730) and linked the videos also again over here.

So I try to get linking points out there and back to here and in doing so (hopefully) divert some traffic back to here. Thinking to do the same with Polycount maybe CGsociety and more in the near future. Facebook and Twitter somehow fear me a bit because it demands a lot of interactive attention. And I also find myself more on places where there is art, so I suspect people like me would do the same.

I also use the pinterest boards now for gathering reference materials instead of dragging images to my PC folder, so the collections of my reference material are now also accessible to everyone and serve multiple purposes. (my personal PC folder not so)

And all in all I hope everyone here would make a pinterest account and link to CGtrader and in doing so help make this place the number one community for CGartist worldwide.

Ps. would it be possible to somehow make referral links to products of other fellow CGtraders, so it would give extra incentive to pin other members work to own boards on pinterest?

Have fun,

Thanks so much for taking your time to write such a well-rounded reply!

I don't think it's possible to add referral links to others' products, but I'll dig into that. :) There is of course the good ol' option of doing a good deed by promoting fellow designers' works alongside your own and waiting for them to return the favor. If Pinterest brings someone to CGTrader and they like what they see, it's good for everyone, because they will come back for more :)

Jess indeed, that is very right and I will certainly help promote work of others (with or without referral linking).

sorry to bring up old post... but i guess its better then to make a new one? anyways... wonder if cgtrader supports these "rich pins" https://help.pinterest.com/en/business/article/rich-pins
its seems there is a hole procedure that website owner has to make for them to work.
>>Setting up Rich Pins is a two-step process.
>>First, you’ll need to add metadata to the content on your site.
>>To see what kind of metadata is available for each type of Rich Pin, check out our topics on article, product and recipe Pins. Generally, the most common >>formats are Open Graph and Schema.org. If you add metadata for multiple types of Rich Pins to your page, the type of Pin that appears will be based on priority. >>The priority of Rich Pin data is 1. App Pins, 2. Product Pins, 3. Recipe Pins and 4. Article Pins.
......
>>Note: You only need to validate 1 URL to apply for Rich Pins on your entire domain. No need to submit all of your URLs!
does CG trader supports this?

I would like to know this as well. I recently setUp my pinterest account and try to connect with my cgtrader website. So far, I just do it manually creating pin on pinterest site.
