New to CGI, Need Guidance

Discussion started by mcmiller

I've been a photographer for 18 years and am brand new to the concept of using CG modeling as part of my work. I know literally nothing. I purchased an architectural model of a loft on here with the intention of compositing that with a female model I photographed and for now I'm attempting use C4D Lite in after Effects to create the composite. I can open the file but it appears to be just the grayed non rendered image. There was a popup about VRay, doe I need that program as well? I'm assuming I bought the fully rendered file because I can see all of the material files so I know they're there, just not how to see them in the image. Basically at this point I want to be able to move the view around the room and composite a person into the scene. Is AE/C4D Lite all I need or do I have to acquire other programs like VRay as well?

Are there textures attached in the download link? There should be a zip. Do you have a link to the model page?

There is a textures folder included in the zip file I downloaded. I didn't have to unzip the files, they dropped into my downloads folder unzipped. I have a screenshot but can't post an image here.

are you able to apply the textures to the materials in your program?

You did not buy fully rendered file. You bought file that can be rendered.
As I understand, you can't render in c4d Lite but you must us AE forrendering the scene.
Now, I'm not c4d user but few clicks away I've found some links that might be usefull for you...

Thank you! How do I know if I'm purchasing a fully rendered file then? This is actually the reason I bought a cheaper file for my first one because I anticipated running into something unforeseen.

On 3D market you mostly buy just models or scenes and then you render it by yourself. Rendering a scene or model is considered as a separate job and is paid separately. As I see it, now you have few options... Learn how to use C4D lIte, set the scene and render it by yourself OR contact artist (that you bought model from) and ask him if he's willing to render desired scene for a fee OR open a project on CGTrader and pay someone to render it for you. Next time if you need some 3D scene maybe you should contact the artist and ask for render instead of buying model but keep in mind that renders will probably cost you more than buying a model.

This scene requires Vray Render Engine. It mentions this on the second line:
rendered with vrayforc4d 3.60

This means you will need to install Vray for Cinema4D
https://www.chaosgroup.com/vray/cinema-4d

If you want other scenes always check the description first and see if it matches your software. For Cinema4D it comes with Default & Physical render engine (look for those keywords). Otherwise there is plenty of paid render engines such as Vray, Corona, Redshift, Octane etc which should be in the description for each model you buy.

Ok, I'm getting closer to understanding. Again, apologies for my ignorance. If I get vray will I still have to go through item by item and attach the material files that were included in my purchase, or is there some kind of path that will achieve results that match the images in the description? Thanks very much for your time and help.

It should work by default with vray installed, you can install the trial version to test it. If it doesnt then you should contact the seller and clarify why it doesnt work.

Hi Mcmiller,
If you want to create scene for you female model when you purchase an architectural model of a loft - you must learn how to do this in VRay Render, in youtube there are many lessons how to do this.

Or find performer who have experience in this areas.
