Looking to learn 3D modelling for games - where to start?

Discussion started by antonyrobwells

Hi,

I've been coding for years, but I want to try learning how to model 3D assets myself - Such as levels and characters. But I'm not sure where to begin?

So my question is, could you recommend any books or tutorial sites(Free or paid) where I can learn?

Also, which 3D Modelling app would be best for a beginner?

Cheers.

If you are really starting 3D modeling from the beginning, Cinema 4D is for me one of the best option. A lot of tutorials and an intuitive interface. After, Blender is free but way more harder with a cold interface.
Those were my choices :)

I love to play the game, and from there I have got the idea that I want to make the new games and so I have to learn 3D modeling. I check for online courses. I came to know that Skype tech support this website give you the training and also give you the certificate.

It seems a really big leap to me, you start liking games and from there you decide to be a 3D modeler just to create a game of your own.
Do you realize that games are produced by people that don´t need to know how to model ?, it´s just a bussiness for bussiness people, to create a good game there is needed alot more people than to create a good movie.
But the real problem I see is that modeling in 3D it´s just a kind of drawing, first of all you need to learn how to draw, then how to draw in 3D, and finally, be confident enough to create your 3D assets, wich can range from a bottle to a trailer truck, and some characters. You´ll need a lot of time to learn it all.
As others have said, there are open source programs that allow you to do all the needed tasks, even Blender has a game engine, tools aren´t a problem today.

Best regards
