Is there a way to provide the most popular file formats without owning all the 3D program licenses?

Discussion started by blobfortress

Hi everyone,

I work with blender and I don't have any licenses for other 3D programs, but I would like to provide the most popular formats (especially 3DS Max). I can export *.3ds with blender, but that's it, and I can also not test it. Is there a realiable (legal!) way to convert formats without owning all the licenses? And also check the resulting files, because just exporting/converting a file doesn't mean it will open correctly in the target program.

Actually the industry standard format for Mesh Files is .FBX. Generally there isn't "one" best format, they each have their ups and downs but when it comes to selling models its best to provide a wide array of formats.

Blender can export to a large quantity of formats however they are not all enabled by default. By going into Preferences->Addons->Import-Export you can turn on and off the various export format options

Of course there is not just one best format, but there are the ones that sell better :) I did not know about the Addons Import-Export, good to know, thank you!

Indeed, I uploaded most of my models on sketchfab, but that doesn't get me different file formats as far as I know, it just let's me present my models better.
