I need some advice

Discussion started by TSB-STUDIO

I am kinda new and I am not sure whether or not I am approaching this the right way.

I do this as a hobby and I love it, but sometimes I lack confidence in what I'm doing. I just feel like there's something missing

Hi,

The model that you uploaded for free download is much better than all the paid ones.
This is perhaps the main issue at the moment.

Regards.

Yes. In the Regan R1 model body shape is very casually worked out from the point of view of aerodynamics and aesthetics. For inspiration, I would advise you to learn Jaguar models as E-type, C-Type, F-type, Mark X, XK120, XJ220 and XJ series. These are excellent examples in the design of car bodies. In the Dodge concept, the shapes are already better, but for example, the thresholds are made terribly. Both models combine poor materials and lack of good HDRI lighting. Again, in your free model, everything is better with both the material and the lighting. Even on the cover image of your page, the rendering is more correct and of better quality. Assault rifle with only one decal, which it's pretty poorly integrated into the design. The rifle itself is scratched, but decal is absolutely white. It would be nice to add signs, codes, etc. There are practically no complaints about the Glock model, slightly correct the shape of the trigger guard and add a few more details. With the revolver in general, everything is ok.

@jaguarbeastproduction Pardon my ignorance, but based on what and wich you think that you can judge someone elses work ? I'm struggling to find any work that is done by you here on cgt and outside of cgt. The only thing about your work is a 2 years old claim by you, here on the forum that you are preparing some new models and that old ones are removed for update and that's it, and how is that no one of the "big players" in the 3d community never heard of you? Besides empty profile with 30k rep points (wich can be grinded if you spend a lot of time commenting and liking), there is nothing else. Usually when someone here on the forum judge someone else's work he/she also have to prove competence via their own work. I'm not trying to be jerk, nor i'm trying to challenge you in any way, I'm asking just out of curiosity.

It is very interesting who you consider to be the "big players". Your reasoning is very typical for beginners who are very offended by any criticism and in general any comments other than enthusiastic exclamations like "wow! this is the best thing I've seen in my life." If someone wants to receive comments only from the most famous people in the industry, let them write directly "Please, only Dreamworks studio designers can answer in my topic." No problems. CGTrader is not a closed club of Rolls-Royce owners and absolutely anyone can participate in any topic. If you are so concerned about whether I have experience in the field of 3D modeling/texturing, etc., yes. I don't see any point in telling any details to anyone with an empty profile.

Ok. I don't see why would I be offended and why am I a begginer, but nevermind. Lets clear something up: "I don't see any point in telling any details to anyone with an empty profile" - you owe that to people on which work you comment/judge, don't build your rep points telling nonsense to people who are in need, that's not nice. And since you decided to be THE DESIGNER you owe that to community as well, I personally don't give a damn about you and about your work to me you are just another comment/like rep grinder who never saw 3d software in his/her life. Good luck with grinding.

Envy is a very bad feeling. As for your conclusions about 3d software and reputation points that you think I received for comments, it's such nonsense that I don't even want to comment on it. I have done and continue to do a lot of useful things for CGTrader. You are showing yourself from a very stupid and ignorant side.

I like the vehicles. The weapons are ok too, but the Low Poly Revolver looks a bit cartoonish with the odd shaped trigger and handgrip.

It doesn't seem to me that you are doing a bad job, a little cold, perhaps, especially at the rendering level, in this sense, what I would say you need is more knowledge related to the creation of images, which is what I think you feel Like something you lack
I think it's quite common for people to enter modeling without a traditional drawing background, often forgetting that a modeling program is more than anything else a drawing program.
And it seems common sense that one uses a drawing program if one knows how to draw, just as one uses a musical instrument if one knows music.
In summary, I think that if you increase your skills with traditional drawing, your renders and models will improve a lot, you have good qualities

funny thing about it is I am an artist. though the type of drawing I do doesn't match up with what I model in 3d

Well, if you already have a basics in traditional drawing, that explains your inclination towards modeling, I guess you'll agree that it's a form of drawing.
And I guess you'll also agree that the more knowledge you have in that field, the more tools you have to create both models and renders.
What I want to emphasize is that you can rely on your knowledge of traditional drawing, and that will give you the security that you feel you lack.

At the end of the day, there are your images what will sell your models

Most of your models look great but I'd work on your rendering. I advise you 2 use some HDRIs and various lights to catch the edges and hi-lights of your models to make-em-pop! Plenty of free tuts around on the net to help ya with that!
