I can not convert a .smg file

Discussion started by dantedelta8

Dear community,

I need to transform a file, which is initially in .smg format, into another editable format (even .stl could be useful for me) to open it with Inventor. I need the 3D geometry which is inside the .smg file. I did not find the way using 3D programmes, but there must be a way. I have been looking for some tool with no results. I hope you could give me a piece of advice.

Thank you,

DanteDelta8.

If it's paid model on cgtrader, then you can use file format conversion service.

A *.smg file is the original Solidworks working/creation file - it is not an output format. Typically models made in Solidworks are output in *.stdprt file format or something like this.
The only way that you can open an .smg file is to have a copy of the Solidworks program.

Apologies - was not 100 percent clear in my reply. You need to communicate with the author of the *.smg file, and ask them for an exported version. Or, you need to locate a person who has the Solidworks program , give them the *.smg file and ask them to make an export for you. Are there any Solidworks users in this community who could assist dantedelta8?
