So I have been selling on turbosquid for many years, I have toyed with the idea of of selling on here instead for a few years but have never gotten around to it. So I thought I would do a test and take a model that never sold on turbosquid, remove it from turbosquid and upload it here. Within two weeks I have a sale. I don't know what that means, if anything, and I still don't know if I am going to really switch over, but it still felt good to make a sale on a new platform. What do you guys think, should I make the jump?

There's really no reason to get rid of your products on the other marketplace all at once. You could begin adding new models here and just leave your previous portfolio at the other store for a while. You can bring over a few models you think might sell here and see how well they do, but I wouldn't recommend just abandoning your previous store unless there's a good reason. If you don't make any sales over there, then by all means do whatever you wish. If you are making sales there, then it might not be the best idea to just switch everything all at once.

Personally, CGTrader is my favorite marketplace, but your experience may be different. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck.

I was both on Turbosquid and CGtrader for long time and one day decided to add the hefty 60% cost of the Ts platform on top of my products there. Then I started noticing I was swinging my own clients. For a while I kept my Ts account for loyal Ts customers who dint care to pay more. However, I noticed those loyal Ts customers was getting lower and lower to a point it made less and less sense to invest time to maintain the account to serve those few.

To me there was enough evidence to believe most 3D customers now had at least two or multiple accounts or made one on the fly, in my case they where login in to the platform that delivered my content at best rate (due to best royalty that was here).

But then Ts decided to cut down my prices (some new best price guarantee practice) to make them equal to prices I had set here on CGtrader, I deleted my Ts account that same day and didn't look back.

I make more money now and have less hassle maintaining multiple accounts, noting but positive outcome for me.

Deleting exclusive content on Ts and putting it up here is probably not going to make a very big difference, probably gonna make a bit more here due to the better royalty, time will tell?

However, if your non exclusive on Ts (pay 60%) and also sell same content for same price here on CGt, I believe you lose lots of money (at least I realize now how mush I lost to Ts). Clients then just buy where they happen to be logged in, 50/50 chances on Ts, no need to compare and maybe login somewhere ells.

Yeah Ts also cut my prices.. I told them that was not fair cause for same price I get more here then on ts.. And also, their upload system is not user friendly as it is here.. I left my account on ts with just few models...

You can find the same model from ts for less or equal amount of money on cgt and that model in my opinion will sell faster on cgt because artist on ts constantly trying to, let's say "justify" their profit because of royalty rates (I speak about "standard" artists not ts exclusive) and as a result of that you have environment where everything seems overpriced in comparison to cgt. The other problem is that on ts prices of models from exclusive ts sellers and non-exclusive seems close, this prevent model to stood out and this is the reason why some models better sells on cgt than on ts.

Turbosquid is in big doodoo now,

For one, its expensiveness has become clear disadvantage, artists delivering comparable content here on CGt are successfully out competing Ts artist with lower pricing while still earning more. Some still believe clients will keep paying more on Ts because its Ts, but that's just wishful thinking. Ts adds no value to the content on it but would like people to believe so.

My experience tells me the majority of clients are small independent studios, freelancers, students and hobbyists, they care about what things cost and actively compare and look for best deals, they are not loyal to any particular platform (Ts has proven they know this because they copy CGt discount strategies, etc.)

Consider CGtrader is all for serving the larger community and knows about its diverse clientele.
You can serve big budget studios here and use the offer button if you want to alternatively serve individuals. CGt focus is on serving the designers and brands itself as a CG trading platform (its name says it all). It brings an open and communicative cost effective platform that provides effective tools/services for publishing and presenting/selling CG works. Besides that they leave it to artists how they want to use the tools to present themselves and the market to sort things out.

Personally I believe that's most cost effective solution and something I want to pay for.

On other hand, Turbosquid delivers a restricted non communicative platform, it has less cost effective solutions and its focus is more on its household name and branding the works form artists as Ts content. Big budget studios probably don't care about what something cost and look for exclusive well curated content and maybe care about a big household name. The problem is those are few and thus Ts is delivering a service that is far less cost effective for majority of artists/sellers and clients on it. Now that CGt is here to deliver what the majority needs Ts knows they bring little value to the table and are in big doodoo. In a struggle for solving the problems they are copying CGt and adopting its strategies, but they would better stick to own strategies and set focus on curated exclusive content only, that would be way to make difference and bring back again its own value proposition.

So in a nutshell;

If you want to be part of some exclusive household brand that is lost in its old ways, don't mind paying more, then Ts is best pick.

However, if you believe serving big majority is more interesting and bringing the content to them on most cost effective platform is the way to go, then CGt is your best pick.

Whatever you do, don't make the mistake competing against your own accounts, because if you do, it will divide your audience between multiple links and they will compete in Google ranking. This is something I began to notice myself, at times my CGtrader images/links would be on top in Google ranking and at other times my Ts images/links would be on top. Now its all links to CGtrader that are on top and links to Ts are gone.

Just know your content is a two way street, if you put it somewhere on the internet it will get views/traffic, then Google picks it up and ranks it accordingly and in turn sends more traffic to that location. You better decide upfront where you want that secondary traffic to go.

Remember, you can deactivate your content on Ts (take it offline) so its no longer listed on the site but remains on your account, rankings in tact, etc. You can later activate it so it gets listed again on site. Upload your content to CGt for a few months, maybe that's a way to test the waters and see how things pan out for you. If its not working for you then just delete the content and put Ts content back online.

Note: If you do this then avoid participating in analytics tool, that will set lock on your content for a year.

Anyways I believe CGt has no problems assisting you and cooperate in deleting your account if things don't work out for you but my prediction is it will work out just fine.

If Ts sends you a complaining message then just tell them your testing things out for your content (remind them its yours) and will return if test turns out they do better job.
