I want to hear experience of other sellers how much discounts helps.

Sure somebody of you made experiments with turning this options on/off.

What strategy was better for you?

Thanx!

Hi! I am not a big seller here, my max. earning in one month is 100$. My discount setting is 50%, and I noticed that, my sales are significantly increasing in that time when the discounts are going. I also have this experience in Unreal Engine Marketplace. A five sales when there is no discount, and a lot of when the discounts are going.

@Furok, from all the sellers on this marketplace, you are the last person who would need to think about discounts. Discounts are needed for those who are trying to sell generic, low quality models, who faces lot of competition from similar sellers and have no other means to compete, but only with low prices. Discounts are also good for those who primarily are targeting hobbyists, ethusiasts and students. I think none of those conditions applies to you - you are selling unique, high quality content and your pricing is targeted at professionals. People who need such quality, will pay full price without questions and they won't wait for "random" discount events. IMO, specifically for you, discounts makes zero sense.

Answering your question, yes, i did quite extensive experiments with discounts on and off in ~18 months period. I found that discounts don't bring more income for me and therefore i decided to permanently quit all discounting programs. I left an option for buyers to negotiate lower price if they really want this, but surprisingly very few people actually use that option. I have no issues with sales, or with income most of the time and i didn't notice that people would purchase less of my models when there's an active discount events going on. I guess that when customers realise, that you are not participating in discount program, there's no need for them to wait for special time and they are buying your models whenever they need them.

I did the same test as LemonadeCG and arrived at same conclusion. The more sales your seemingly getting is your own offsetting it to a different option. If you delete that option and compare in the end you see you get same amount of sales + more royalty. Leaving the negotiation button live is best strategy, and indeed (same for me) very few use it. Also note the discounts here serve different purposes, one of them is for competing against other marketplaces. My conclusion on that is, avoid competing against own profiles on the two major platforms that are battling head on for making the sale of your work, it will devalue your work on both.

Quality work like yours has fewer competition, the people that need it buy it where its available. Its better to make it available on the platform that best serves you and avoid swinging your own clients to platforms that don't serve you well. I deleted my models over two years ago now on Turbosquid and observed how all my clients followed me here. Just know Ts has no special Ts clients, all Ts visitors also visit CGtrader. Having your work on both splits your clients and royalty’s you could have gotten here, but you never know if you don't try.
