Beginner looking for some general advices. Character models vs environments vs single assets

Discussion started by deleteme12312424365342

I've been on this platform for a while, though I wasn't much serious about making models for sale until now. Somehow I've managed to sell some models which surprised me a lot. I want to ask some general queston about how selling 3D models works now, and maybe some personal advice (please please).

First of all I guess that uploading easy models that are cheap price doesn't work. And the bigger/more complicated/expensive is the project the higher chance you will get noticed. How true is it? As for my skills, I'm somewhat average at polymodeling, PBR texturing and sculpting. Actually improved my sculpting a lot since last character upload. Right now I have some plans, but I'm still not sure which direction to choose.

I can make modular asset packs for creating game levels. Like walls, floors, some decorative assets. It's very tedious and time consuming, but not that hard overall.

I can make some single assets like high detailed weapons, or something very technical. Like a crossbow or a photocamera for example.

And the last thig is making characters. This one is the hardest for me, because I'll have to learn rigging and this is the pain. But this one is the most interesting for me and I guess characters are always needed. The fact that people bought my not that finished not rigged character twice says something.

I'm still going to experiment with this, but I wonder what sells better in your experience.

In my experience weapons don't sell, because there is a bunch already out there.

Choose a field that you love, forget about anything else, even so, chances are that you end tired and dissapointed before reaching a goal, imagine what would happen working in something you hate just because you think it will bring more benefit.

Model what you are good at. And you can always check out the trending models section to see what is selling well.
