About the dimensions of a model

Hi! I have to make a furniture with three doors, one beside each side of the object and a third on the top, wich opens verticaly.

I don´t understand if the measurements the final model must have are taken for the object with the doors opened or closed.

Does anybody know? Is there a general rule establishing how the measurements must be read?
