Favourite layer hight

Discussion started by chrisibub

When it comes to 3D printing the layer hight is - to my mind- one of the most essential questions.

When I print out my models, i mostly use 0.1mm as a layer hight. If the models are larger (10 cm high or more) I use 0.15 mm as I don't look at it from a close distance then. Some people, nevertheless, also say that 0.1 mm is too high, also for larger models.

What's your favourite layer hight? Does it also depend on the size of the object?

Regards,

Christoph

hii!!
i think that realy depend on prupose of the model,if you gone to sand it and paint it allmost doensent matter!!
i use 0.06 for realy small prints (up to 2 cm), sometimes with 5 or 6 seconds betwen layer, depending on the model, and for regular prints, just like you i use 0.1, but for big prints i go for 0.2 or 0.25, faster or slower, once more depending on the model... but just because it would take to longer make a 18 cm print with layers of 0.1 or 0.06... 0.1 or 0.15 its a good print quality and with a good machine you will have some nice detailed prints

True - 0.06 is a hight many people mention with small prints! I also agree that sanding and painting makes a lot how the print looks, that's why I paint my models mostly.
