How to slice your 3D model for 3D printing with PrusaSlicer

Tutorial posted about 1 year ago

PrusaSlicer is a robust and intuitive slicing program that's compatible with most FDM 3D printers, not just Prusa models.

Here's how you can slice a model using PrusaSlicer:

  1. Opening the Software: Start by opening PrusaSlicer. You'll be greeted by the main interface, which is divided into three main sections: the 3D view, the right sidebar, and the top menu.
  2. Importing the Model: You can import your 3D model by clicking on the "Add" button on the top menu, or by simply dragging and dropping your STL file into the 3D view area. Once your model is loaded, you can move, scale, or rotate it using the controls on the left sidebar in the 3D view area.
  3. Setting Up Your Printer: In the right sidebar, you'll need to set up your printer settings. This includes choosing your printer model, nozzle diameter, layer height, infill, print speed, and the type of filament you're using. If you're using a Prusa printer, pre-configured profiles will be available.
  4. Slicing the Model: Once you're satisfied with your settings, click on the "Slice Now" button located on the bottom of the right sidebar. PrusaSlicer will then slice your model into layers according to the settings you've specified.
  5. Previewing the G-Code: After slicing, you can preview the G-code in the "Preview" tab at the bottom of the 3D view area. This shows you the path that the extruder will take and gives you a good idea of how your print will look.
  6. Exporting the G-Code: If you're satisfied with the preview, you can save your G-code by clicking on the "Export G-code" button on the bottom right of the interface. Save the file to your preferred location, and it's ready to be loaded into your 3D printer!

Remember, slicing is a critical step in 3D printing that can affect the quality of your prints, so don't be afraid to experiment with different settings to see how they affect your end product. Happy slicing!
