HMB Endeavour was an 18th century collier ship that James Cook famously captained on his voyage to Tahiti to observe the transit of Venus and then to Australia to document and claim what became New South Wales. It was originally built as the 'Earl of Pembroke' before it was purchased by the Royal Navy in 1768 and rechristened 'Endeavour'.
